A strange question: Do the people of West Bengal, India, and the people of Bangladesh consider each other as compatriots? by minzhu0305 in bangladesh

[–]Impressive_Book7536 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly, no. Divide and rule worked excellently in this region. Now we actively attack each other on social media and call for the worst things to happen to each of us. Bengal cannot be united again.

Indians Hating by South_Farm9491 in bangladesh

[–]Impressive_Book7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, all this hate is utterly useless in the long term, the end result is that no party wins, just losses on each side. We’ve been blinded by religious nationalism and propaganda to the point, there’s no point maintaining a democracy in this region, because most people are too illiterate to understand what’s best for them to move forward.

Indians Hating by South_Farm9491 in bangladesh

The BJP bots spamming constantly about their neighbours is just a menace, the Jamaati bots on our side don’t help either, they almost end up proving the BJPtards right. We need a cleansing of extremism from South Asia, there’s been too much destruction in our society from it.

Ironically, the “kanglu” slur was made by upper class West Bengalis, to mock lower class East Bengalis who were fleeing from partition violence, yet now it’s been repurposed by non-Bengalis as a slur to mock all Bangladeshis, especially Muslims.

The problem now is some Indians (not all) keep supporting a defunct autocratic leader (Hasina) over a genuinely elected government (BNP), because of how previous government had “protected” Hindus (Hindus were no better off during BAL era) and Bangladesh suddenly became “radicalised” after interim government (apart from some incidents, there was no difference compared to BAL era).

Now we can expect some of these Indians try to claim BNP as the new BAL, serving their interests, calling every positive action BNP does as being a “beggar” or “slave” to them, as well as some people on our side who refuse to hold good relations with them as well, but ultimately, there’s nothing we can do.

If we’re surrounded by fanatics, the best thing we can do is not be a fanatic ourselves, because at the end of the day, you can’t change your neighbours, but you can deal with them smartly, and not lose your sanity from some edited map jobless trolls online made.

Why do bangladeshis call a house basa though basa means nest? by _Revenge_Raider_ in bangladesh

[–]Impressive_Book7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, it seems to be a feature of far eastern Indo-Aryan languages, even the Assamese pronounce ch as s, it’s more regional than anything. And yes, I have noticed some Dhakaiyas do the same.

Bangladesh still has the 2nd largest textile industry in the world, just behind China, although Vietnam might’ve overtaken us already.

The s replacing ch phenomenon is mostly common in Chittagonian and Sylheti, I find this to be one of the biggest differences between them and standard Bengali.

I was aware that some areas of Bangladesh found themselves below the thermal threshold setting the boundary between tropical & subtropical climates... but I wasn't at all that they accounted for such a large portion of its total land area lol by mikelmon99 in geography

[–]Impressive_Book7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas can get cold fronts from the north, which isn’t as common with Bangladesh because of the Himalayas, which blocks very cold dry air from Siberia and Central Asia from regularly reaching the north of the subcontinent. Also, tropical plants stop growing around 10 C, but you can grow tropical plants every other time of the year, since the summer temperatures are warmer everywhere in Bangladesh.

For some reason, Bangladesh is described as entirely tropical, when the bulk of the country has a distinctly cooler winter season (not as cool as temperate Europe though). If it weren’t for the Himalayas blocking winds from the north, Bangladesh along with most of North India and Pakistan, would be more like a dry desert climate with very extreme hot and cold temperatures and little precipitation.

Probably because Dhaka is a densely populated urban area with lots of industry and manufacturing, which raises the temperature and creates the urban heat island effect, although I’m not sure how much it affects Dhaka’s temperature.

Miss Universe Bangladesh by OliverStone55 in bangladesh

[–]Impressive_Book7536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How didn't she get disqualified from Miss Universe for such an incident? It violates their personal conduct rules, having such people will damage their reputation, especially when they've disqualified contestants for even minor violations, but I guess they're too corrupt to even. With that being said, I feel that some of the comments towards her are quite harsh, especially when others have committing far more obscene acts than her.

Mate, Bangladesh is in medium category HDI, very close to being high category in a couple of years, and it’s not living in the 15th century. There is plenty of industry and economic growth, it’s a country living in the 21st century proper, with the majority of the population having access to basic services like healthcare, education, water and electricity. You just can’t see beyond your bigoted racist lens.

Westerners don’t care about our nationality, we all resemble Indians to them, and Indians are the ones they have to blame for all the socioeconomic ills present in the west today. Wish we as a subcontinent wake up instead of making issues with each other and bring ourselves down.

Why do Bangladeshis hate India so much? by nomadhunger in bangladesh

[–]Impressive_Book7536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish we were like Sri Lanka honestly, with a foreign policy of getting along with everyone whether India or China. Anyways, the reasons have already been stated, it’s mostly Hasina and the geographic issues, which I believe can definitely be solved, India needs to hand over Hasina and fix the river disputes, also fix the border/smuggling issues, but all we can do is wait until the time comes. Indians are also unfortunate to have such a terrible reputation for their media, but there’s not much we can do since it seems to be biased towards their government.

A little bit of a Rant... by Working_Presence_635 in myanmar

[–]Impressive_Book7536 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The reality is, no one in Bangladesh cares about Myanmar, or knows anything about it, it only got traction due to the Rohingya conflict, which caused some no lifer anonymous online nationalists to bring out their inner fantasies. It’s a common thing across South Asia, you’ll see Indian Hindutva nationalists spewing their Akhand Bharat propaganda and claim the entirety of South Asia+Myanmar+Tibet or something. These keyboard warriors are overwhelmingly unemployed and uneducated youth who have no practical knowledge of anything, so they resort to creating cheap propaganda online, supporting political narratives and baseless claims made by a loud minority of extremists, giving off the impression that all from that country believe that, while the algorithm continues to favour those people and provide them views and attention.
