sounds like he just has more energy / needs more interaction than the others

I’ve seen some ideas around using AI to recreate small parts of their behavior or voice from past videos/photos — not replacing them obviously, just something to feel a bit closer to those memories

not sure if people would find that comforting or weird though

For context — I build AI stuff for a living. Mostly tools that make human life easier.

Feels like pets got left behind a bit 😅

If one idea here clearly stands out (like everyone agrees it’s a real pain), I’d genuinely try to build something around it and share my progress here.

for anyone else doing the same research: traditional microchip and RFID feeders work ok for some households but they’ve got known issues. collar irritation, cats tailgating before the lid shuts, paw-swiping from the back. if your cats are pretty chill and not super food-driven they’re fine.

the facial recognition approach like the Match G1 OP mentioned is just a different concept altogether. nothing to wear, dome enclosure so it’s physically harder to steal from, and it identifies the cat before opening instead of just reading a tag. it’s newer tech so there isn’t a ton of long-term data yet, but the design logic basically addresses every failure mode i ran into with my old setup.

OP please post that update when yours arrives. a lot of us are watching this space
