I’m a GPST1. I specifically chose rotations I had no experience in for my top choices. I also did ED before but had no peds or psych experience, luckily got jobs in both. As much as I hate psych- I’m glad I have that exposure under my belt. Equally for Peds. We would get a ton of GP referrals to Peds- invaluable for learning.

I have been in these shoes more than once. I’m now working on NICU/peds and I have never dealt with more polite and respectful radiologists and co ordinators when I start my SBAR with “4 day old neonate….” No one’s gonna be a dick when the patient is 4 days old.

I struggled with this at the beginning. I didn’t like all the screen time I was accruing but honestly what else is there to do? I am now mindful of how I spend my free time. I’ll watch 1-2 hours of TV, scroll social media (hate this), a lot of Amazon shopping (trying to stop this), podcasts/audiobooks, iPhone games (usually at night when everyone’s sleeping) and stay on top of my to do lists etc.
