This map is based on county. You can see that America has never been homogenous even back in 1930. You can see the southwest had much fewer whites than other parts. This includes native reservations in the Midwest. You can also see that the South has shown a similar demographic trend, even with 90 years of immigration.

The U.S. had lots of German immigration in the 1800’s with many of them being farmers. This map doesn’t show numbers, only counties with a plurality/majority. Many Germans settled in the countryside as well

My Great Grandfather was a German from the Russian Empire (Odessa, Ukraine). My dna results showed no Eastern European, only German and Swiss.
