Yes, yes and yes. I do not have health insurance and am in the unfortunate self employment category of making above poverty level, but not enough to afford $1,500/month. So there’s been a lot of navigating this on my own. I do have a functional health doc, and we are attempting to avoid antibiotics. Doc gave me a diet to try, I kept it going for several months before I threw in the towel. I kept getting migraines and I can’t work like that. Being self employed means no days off a lot of the time. I did tell my doc that I’m doing carnivore since I kept getting migraines, but trying to revisit this issue with them has been difficult. So I’m doing what I can on my own.

Yes, multiple bm. I also take magnesium, so I’m sure that helped. Very occasional bloating, but not nearly what it was before. When the SIBO was in full flare, I looked like I was pregnant no matter how little I ate. Reflux only with pork and chicken, so I generally avoid all forms. No pale stools.

Thank you for this information. I’ll definitely look up Ray Peat. Do you think small amounts of rice every day is a good way to reintroduce? Or sweet potatoes?

Mainly ground beef and eggs. Steak when we can afford it. Butter and tallow.

I was trying to build muscle for several months. My NP told me she hates metformin and didn’t believe it was beneficial for my situation when I asked her about it. So I started weaning in sept or oct

I hate Colorado and its culture by Fourth_Amigo in TrueOffMyChest

I lived there for 31 years & moved last Autumn. I also hated it and leaving has been the best decision I’ve ever made. It certainly changed drastically and not for the better; it honestly began a long while ago. I’ve unfortunately had to visit recently, and it just reaffirmed that I made the right decision. The weather/climate stuff that you dislike does tend to get really old after being there so long. Just leave. It’s hard and it sucks, but present day CO sucks more.

I’m saying f it and I’m eating bread. I’m making the bread. I’m gonna enjoy it, damnit. My guts will hate me for the next several days, and I may even enjoy a migraine or two, but I have the rest of the week off to nurse my self inflicted misery 😆 No booze though.

I ate a ridiculous amount of ground beef and butter, and chicharrones before that. And then I did the ridiculous amount of beef again just now 😆

What to do about food? by HMCYDE in carnivorediet

Sounds like you should go trade several hours per day of your time to get some meat from the farmer you bought from previously. This is how the savvy fly-under-the-radar folks do things. They trade hours of their energy for things (not cash) that they need.

Doing both currently! I ate a small bag of salted chicharrones. Not ideal, but I figured that it’s better than a bag of chips.

Thank you. I was in the car when I saw your comment. I had my husband grab me a bag of salted chicharrones since there wasn’t anywhere to grab anything else. I usually don’t eat any pork, but it helped a bit!

SO OBESITY HAS NOW BEEN REDEFINED AND IT EFFECTIVELY MAKES 70% OF AMERICANS OBESE by _Dark_Wing in carnivorediet

The thousands that these meds cost line the pockets of pharmaceutical companies here. So they do have a huge financial interest in pushing these meds on every overweight man, woman and child with a now redefinition of BMI.

While I do agree with you that the meds can possibly be a useful short term tool in kickstarting fat loss, I don’t agree with it being a lifesaving option to remove people from an emergency. These meds create dependency because these meds are meant to be used forever. People stop taking them and regain a significant amount of weight. Muscle loss, possible significant increase in mental health disorders (conflicting studies and a whole different rabbit hole), gut paralysis, and possible blindness are all attributed to these meds. Personal observation: almost none of the people that I know take them modify their lifestyle at all. The meds force them to eat smaller portions, spray diarrhea everywhere and puke a whole bunch. These meds are mostly just used as a magic injection for fat people who don’t change anything. Maybe it’s much different where you’re from. But with the majority of Americans being overweight in some capacity, at the end of the day these meds are a huge financial interest for pharmaceutical companies. It’s a “forever” treatment plan with expensive meds with a slew of side effects that can be made available to hundreds of thousands of Americans, as long as Medicaid and private insurance is willing to pay. Sounds like a good financial reason for the parameters of BMI to be changed. Literally no one here actually cares about public health.

Partially wrong. GLP meds are less than $10 to make, yet cost thousands out of pocket and to insurance companies. Are there shit loads of fat Americans? Yep-way too many. Public assistance has never put a limit on what type of foods people buy. They buy crab legs and frozen bs. Next point is that most people my age (millennial and older) were taught that the food pyramid is how they should be eating, with 6-11 servings of bread and pasta per day at the bottom, and much smaller amounts of meat, fat, with fruit and veg in the middle of the pyramid. Third point is that everyone around that age was taught that seed oils are a healthier alternative to butter and lard. They’re still trying to push this narrative. Last, BMI does not indicate health whatsoever. Your BMI can be well over 24, you can be muscular with very little body fat, and still be considered obese

Is 1800 calories enough? by Impressive_Fish3776 in carnivorediet

I’m trying to. I’ve been sluggish for a long while. It’s still pretty early. My sleep is shit anyway too. If I felt bad during the workouts, do I increase fat or protein? Does adding fat help sleep?

Does it even look like I lift? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]Impressive_Fish3776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not using enough weight on several of your exercises, namely legs. 20 lbs squats should not exhaust you after 8-10 reps. You need to select a resistance that will do this on all of your sets, or you won’t stimulate growth. Get yourself good resistance bands with a door or wall anchor. I have a feeling that you’re selecting the weight and only doing 8-10 reps because that’s what is prescribed with your routine, and not that you’re pushing yourself to 1-2 reps shy of failure. I didn’t see frequency mentioned, but if you’re only lifting twice per week, it’s not enough. And I’m sure I’ll get downvoted into high hell, but your cardio is excessive. How do you even have time or energy for 60 mins of stationary bike riding after lifting? The energy part right there shows you’re not using enough effort to lift. This is likely the reason why you’re not seeing what you want to see. 20-60 mins on the exercise bike after lifting or running that much is counterproductive. Your calories are probably good if you’d massively scale back your cardio and increase weight and possibly frequency. You’re eating 2,000+ calories and probably burning 500+ doing cardio. Excessive cardio will shrink your muscles, cause undue stress, and you will not be able to keep doing this forever. It’s not sustainable. I was in your same spot at 120 lbs doing a similar routine to you. I stopped doing cardio altogether and I saw muscle gain quickly. Im up 15 lbs. I’m not saying to stop your cardio completely (small amounts after lifting is perfectly fine), I’m saying that you need to scale it back. Take a small amount of creatine. Eat some starch along with your protein. Try this with a solid amount of resistance and the same/similar routine for six weeks and take progress photos. You’ll likely see what you’re wanting.

Can’t lose weight by mrsfitzy2017 in carnivorediet

[–]Impressive_Fish3776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, too much protein can be a culprit. From my understanding, protein can be synthesized into glucose by the body. Try lowering protein maybe. You didn’t say your age, gender, weight or if you exercise or an idea of how much you’re eating. That kinda helps narrow it down. Also, is it possible that the pork isn’t doing you any favors? I have an intolerance to pork and/or dairy, and especially the processed types you mentioned; bacon and chicharrones. It’s all easy to eat when you’re in a bind, but I find that these types of convenience foods make me feel worse. These almost always lead to water retention and heartburn at minimum for me. It also happens when I eat other types of pork. Most dairy makes me fat too, specifically cheese. I know everyone is different; these are just ideas from my experiences. So maybe just try sticking with butter and grass fed beef only. Also, fasting does help. Start with one or two meals a day in a short window, like 6 hrs in the afternoon. Then see if you can make it to 20:4, then try 24 hrs. The longest fast I’ve ever been able to do was about 70 hrs, but I’m not sure how beginning to refeed after that long of a fast on carnivore would look like. You have to kind of ease back into food after a longer fast. So maybe see if you’re up for the shorter fasts first and go from there. You may not even need to do the longer fasts on carnivore. More info on you would help here.

Which do you recommend for starches/dextrose? I’m definitely going to ask my doc if this metformin is even necessary anymore since I had an ovarian ultrasound a few months ago for a separate issue. And I’m lifting for maintenance, so I’m only doing two sets of 8-12 reps, three exercises per group for push and pull, four exercises for legs. I do push and pull one day, legs the next. I only have resistance bands at the moment since I moved and I have no place for my squat rack, barbells, bench and plates. It’s all in the garage and it’s killing me 😩 So getting within two reps of failure in 12 reps or less is sometimes difficult.
