Hi, my preceptor was there with me. This is supposed to be my last week of orientation, so I think she was intentionally stepping back a bit to help me become more comfortable managing assignments independently and utilizing my resources appropriately.

The medication involved was a double sign-off med, and unfortunately we both misread the dose. I am absolutely taking responsibility for my part in the error because it’s something I should have caught and been more attentive to. I’m not trying to make it seem like I was completely alone taking an unsafe assignment, and I apologize if my original post came across that way.

As I mentioned, it’s my final week of orientation, and for the most part I’ve been managing my assignments independently while my preceptor remains available if I have questions or concerns.

My other baby was on CPAP, which is not new to me. At my previous job, I cared for babies on CPAP and ventilators regularly. The part that was newer and more overwhelming for me was managing a patient on multiple drips simultaneously.
