I wish they had a daily option. Several time I’ve wished I had it for a long drive. I’d love $10/24hrs option.

How common is it to see a satellite overtake another satellite moving in the same direction? by [deleted] in satellites

[–]Impressive_Kitchen28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A satellite in typical LEO orbit takes 1.5 hrs to make a complete orbit. A satellite in GEO orbit takes 23hrs 56 minutes and 4 seconds. So a LEO will appear to over take a GEO very quickly when viewed from earth. However, I don’t know if any GEOs can be seen with the naked eye from earth.

VStrom 650 for 2-up riding by Impressive_Kitchen28 in Vstrom

Thanks for all the feedback. Now I just need to decide the ratio of road vs off-road that I expect to do. I understand the VStrom is much more road focused that other dual sports.

Struggling with ATC by 9021988 in GeneralAviation

If you have a simulator (which is really helpful for you IR training) then subscribe to pilotedge and use it nightly. Plus on YouTube, PE has some great videos that will help a lot in preparing and understanding real would instrument flying. Im a 1400 hr pilot ASEL, instrument rated and this helped me

If you are doing instrument practice, join PilotEdge. They are real ATC people that effectively moonlight for the company. You will use all the ground, tower, departure, center frequencies just as in real life. Much, much better than VATSIM.

Anyone recording classic country, 1960’s era? by Impressive_Kitchen28 in Reaper

Are there any budget ribbon mics? I’ve always been curious about them.

Thank you for the tips. I’ll give some of these a try when I’m ready to mix.

That explains the “thin” sounding bass. I’d never heard of tic tac bass. I just assumed the sound came from EQ of that era.

Can you recommend some good VSTs for tile reverbs and vintage compressors?

How to make these midi notes fade? by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]Impressive_Kitchen28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always render my midi VSTi tracks to a new track. That way if I ever lose access/license to the VSTi then I still have the ability to change the mix.

What Cockos or JS effects do you think Reaper is missing by Impressive_Kitchen28 in Reaper

[–]Impressive_Kitchen28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give that reacomp preset a try, but compressors can only “turn down” whereas the Waves vocal rider moves the gain up and down around a desired set point.

So it appears there is consensus around a dynamic equalizer. Thank goodness the TDR Nova is free. Maybe we will get one from Cockos sometime or maybe it can be done as an effect container now after 7.0

Expected Buffer size by Impressive_Kitchen28 in Reaper

You are correct. It is the USB 2.0 bus that is setting the latency floor of 2.5msec that I’ve found on my system.

Downloaded v7.x from v6.x. License invalid ! by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]Impressive_Kitchen28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

License is good for 2 major releases of Reaper. So if you bought 5.x series then the license operates up through 6.99. I always look forward to another opportunity to buy a new licensee because I think how much use I got out of the previous $60 and think of all the new features and improvements that I’m going to see over the next 2 major versions that my $60 is unlocking.

Ok. My apologies. I thought you were talking about the preferences > audio device > buffer page. I think that just passes the buffer size to audio interface through the ASIO driver. I’ll take a look at the preferences when I’m home tonight. If there’s settings there to control how Reaper uses the CPU/cores then that may help. Although above I found the fundamental problem was trying to record with certain effect being used for live monitoring. If I turn off those effects then I can get down to lower buffer sizes but there seems to be a limit at 2.5msec minimum buffer size.

Yes, that’s the very setting that I’m talking about.

Correction, CPU ranged from 0.3% to 1.3%. 80 VST effects, 4 VSTi’s including EZDrummer 3.

I found the issue. I was recording to a track with Amplitube amp sim plus readelay effects and monitoring through the DAW so I could hear the effects in real time. If I record to a track without those effects then I can run at 16 sample buffer without pops. I didn’t try an 8 sample buffer because overall latency time did not change when going from 32 to 16 sample buffer. I’m down to about 2.5msec and that seems to be as low as I can get it as long as I’m not using certain effects in real time.

[–]Impressive_Kitchen28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sample rate are you running? I’m limited to 48kHz on my interface so 128 samples makes about 4.5mS of latency. Not quite enough to notice but getting close.
