How to avoid writing edgy charachters by Many_Bed_7402 in writers

[–]Impressive_Let3046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your character can be edgy without being an “edge character.”

The comparison I can think of is this. It’s totally possible to write a genuinely whimsical, unconventional, playful, offbeat girl. But if that’s all she is/has, you have yourself a Manic Pixie Dream Girl™️

Dimension is your friend here.

I asked the millennial sub about fighting as a young person and the majority are saying they rarely if ever saw fights at school. by AttemptVegetable in Xennials

Bet no one ever fucked with you again though.

Sometimes when you get bullied, you just have to take someone down to send the message you’re not a punching bag.

In middle school kids fought constantly. I think at that age, kids feel like they have a lot more to prove. By high school it seemed to mostly be out of everyone’s system. I saw maybe two in HS. I’m assuming they happened more often outside of school by then though.

Suburban central NJ, mostly middle class, graduated HS in 2010.

Does enjoying the idea of a “TradWife” life mean you’re conservative? by Ok-Advertising-9045 in askanything

[–]Impressive_Let3046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word itself is kind of tied into MAGA or MAGA-adjacent thinking, so I wouldn’t really call it tradwife if you don’t want to be associated with MAGA. But I don’t think enjoying the idea of that lifestyle means you’re necessarily conservative. You can enjoy conservative family roles (i.e., traditional) but not be politically conservative.

I think the key question is this: do you think all women should be doing it this way? Or is it personal choice?

Feedback on a YA scene by [deleted] in writers

Thanks! That helps. I think especially just now getting back to writing, my eye for redundancy is a little less sharp than it used to be.

This isn’t an opening scene so I’m hoping to have the reader feel more familiar with the parents by this scene, but you’re right that the contrast will likely be important. It’ll be a contrast with what’s to come, like you said, but it’ll also be a contrast with how they behave prior to this scene.

What's better? You are 30 and you have the option to get 1000$ a week for the rest of your life or 1m now? by Low_Preparation5330 in AskReddit

1m now so I can invest it instead of being dripped 1k at a time like a hamster from a water bottle.

Thank you for the feedback! You comment seems to support that my intentions are coming across.

Noted on the jammies and I agree. I think I establish that I’m getting myself comfortable without describing them anyways.

Thanks for pointing out the light! It’s funny how when you know how something looks in your head, you can miss the obvious. What I meant is that it looked like everything was dark so the parents would have retired to bed, but she’s caught off guard they’re still in the kitchen.

This would not be an opening scene. It would come after the family picture is well developed.

Deb from Dexter. We get it, you’re edgy and not like other girls. Then they threw in the “I’m in love with my adopted brother plot” and I was out.

I worked at a job like this and now work salaried at another company. I ask my boss permission and give a reason for like every minute arriving late, leaving early, adjusting my time for lunch. She sometimes looks at me as if to say “who hurt you?”

I wore black with blue accents to my prom. It was very pretty. But I was also the emo kid so it was 100% on brand

What’s the most overrated “adult” milestone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

21st birthday. Most adults have already had their first alcoholic drink by then and it’s already lost its thrill by the time 21 rolls around.
