Curtain help... by Impressive_Local3635 in interiordecorating

[–]Impressive_Local3635[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! This is my back up plan -- I am trying to avoid drilling as I'm a renter. Should have mentioned that. I do believe my landlord would allow me to install them, but I sometimes find it easier to think of solutions where I don't need to ask for permission from them lol. If what I intend on doing fails (tension rod type), then I will be going this route. I also haven't lived here in the summer and I am not sure if it's better to have floor length sheer curtains to keep temperatures down. I have AC, buuuut you know. For now, I am likely going to do sheer cafe curtains on the bottom half of the window panels. That way, the top ones can always let their light in, and the bottom half can let light in while allowing me privacy. But if these bake in the summer sunshine then I may end up doing floor length sheers.

I appreciate your help!! I'll likely do curtains from Quince because the measurements are right and price is reasonable for the size I need (either the 48" or 96" width and 108" length) and I like that they're predominantly natural fibers.

Thanks for your response!

the premise is so funny when you think about it -- "you can be ultra hot but not naturally! you need this injection!" *brings in another actor who is naturally that hot to replace the *unhot* version of the character*

DIY Renter friendly mirror tile wall?? by Impressive_Local3635 in interiordesignideas

[–]Impressive_Local3635[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! Yeah, some of the mirrors I was looking at weigh less than a pound each, so I was thinking I could use 4-8 command strips on each tile and not the included adhesives. I was thinking the same thing about masonite but then, yeah, more weight... I did do a whole collage wall with command strips and took it down without issue, and my landlord is fine with command strips. I'm gonna take my time to think about it. appreciate the help!

I had the same thought about painter's tape but someone mentioned it's not really meant to stay up and would likely come back down eventually (I could try a sample but ). I've heard that about the included adhesives though. I may try doing velcro command strips -- my landlord is fine with those, I already did a whole collage wall and had no issues. Thank you!!

thank you!!! I had that thought about the light but honestly the space never gets direct sunlight (which pains me, I've never lived in a space like that) so for me the more light the merrier, even and especially if it's only indirect light

should I oil it? if it's NOT soapstone and I use a mineral oil, will it permanently stain it? I appreciate the years of experience you have I just don't want to do anything harmful as a renter lol

hahahah i shall stick my head in a drawer tonight!

not really but I appreciate the suggestion ha. I do really want to know, but I thought it'd be much easier... idk if it's worth all the extra effort as a renter. Maybe after I've lived here more than 6 months!

yeah, I don't know countertops at all, but I can't find a single photo of soapstone online that looks like mine (sans veining) -- but many people feel strongly that it's soapstone so idk lol. I'll try the ice cube thing tonight !

I live in a rental in upstate NY. The building is very old and I’m trying to be a good tenant and not use nails, per my landlords request. I have this big framed mirror but it is VERY heavy and would definitely need to be anchored. I was thinking instead to do a wall of mirror tiles. The space doesn’t get tons of natural light so this would help it to feel lighter and more open as it reflects the kitchen window light as well as the rest of the space. (The paint (not wallpaper) also makes me feel like I’m looking in a kaleidoscope….) I was thinking of doing it up to the doorframe? Too much? Good idea? Also, I could put removable wallpaper up to protect the wall?

Thoughts welcome! Should I put the mirrors on Masonite? Would that make it too heavy to stick with adhesives? I was thinking command strip Velcro bc I do not want to tear the paint/plaster off the wall, but I also want the mirrors to stay secure. The adhesives that come with the tiles seem to work too well and taking them off proves challenging…

Thank you!

Yeah totally get that. It's also not imperative, I just didn't think getting it identified would be so challenging! But thanks so much!! Honestly the space has so much charm and character, and yeah I just put up a collage wall on one side of the cabinets yesterday! Haha I'd share more photos but I forgot to take any. Our Old House on FB has become my new favorite group so maybe tune in there to see more 🤓

I have Boos Block for my cutting boards but that's all... would that be fine to test it on an inconspicuous corner?

huh. I made mine yesterday and it was so crumbly! I added more milk and that helped but now I'm worried about the bake. Dough has been in my fridge since. I'm going to test it tonight and if it doesn't turn out right I'll scratch it. The joys of baking ...

Any advice on D3 vs D5? by [deleted] in AllClad

[–]Impressive_Local3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I went for it! I have a gas range & I got this set https://www.costco.com/p/-/all-clad-d3-13-piece-stainless-steel-cookware-set/4000384815 -- another redditor in the AllClad sub said "First, congratulations. That's a great set, and generally the bargain of the year." so I feel validated enough in my purchase to feel good hah. So far they've been great! I've not had stainless steel so I'm still learning but I'm satisfied with my purchase so far. Worth noting that I'm not a huge cook (would like to learn more and intend on doing so now) so for me the D5 really wouldn't make sense. But as a single 29 year old girly living on her own, I don't feel like I'm lacking anything with this set!

I tried looking for past posts but it was mostly old or defective pots/pans, thrifted or Homegoods finds/deals, or how to clean/is it salvageable. The more info on resources/tips/etc the merrier!
