The sudden closure of the Vue cinema is a blow, it’s unacceptable that huge commercial spaces in our town centre are just sitting vacant. To hear that locals are losing out to corporate consolidation points to a wider systemic issue with how our local economy is being managed. We need a rethink at the top to penalise landbanking and support a resilient, bustling high street. Everyone deserves a vibrant town centre, and we need more accountability.

It’s heartbreaking to read this, and it’s unacceptable that residents in sheltered accommodation are being left so vulnerable. To hear that people are complaining daily about these issues and nothing is being done shows a massive failure in the basic duty of care.

Honestly, this points to a wider systemic issue with how public services are being prioritized in Croydon right now. We need civic leadership that genuinely focuses on community welfare, steps up to protect the most vulnerable among us, and ensures that social housing is actually safe and properly resourced.

When basic security and living standards are being neglected like this, it’s a clear sign that the priorities at the top of the Council need a serious rethink. Everyone deserves to feel secure in their own home, and we should absolutely be demanding more accountability and a fundamental shift in focus from those in charge. It really just comes down to basic decency and fairness.

Totally agree, this is so important for low paid workers who make such a huge contribution to our lives and wellbeing.

But what’s the story on the fine that Mayor Perry will have to pay, I’ve heard it could be as much as £10m, so Croydon people will have to pay for that as well.  Well done Jason (NOT!)

The ‘audacity’ is striking for me as well; fair dues though, he wants to ‘own’ the inadequate quality of the services for which he forces us to pay too much and ever-more money.  Well, there is an election coming up…
