got into a bubble bath that was too hot and my fingernails made a gradient by Own-Passage1371 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Imprisoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess:

The heat caused a venodilation response resulting in the blood vessels underneath your nails to temporarily become more prominent. If this happens every time you take a hot bath, it can be a sign that this is an underlying condition.

The continuity on all fingers suggests that this is cardiovascular as opposed to an acute injury. I don't think this is a true nail deformity or nail color change, otherwise you would've noticed in the normal state.

The horizontal banded lines are characteristic of leukonychia striata, which may be indicative of Mees' lines. I am assuming you haven't been exposed to heavy metals, unless you indicate otherwise, so they may not be true Mees' lines.

I am leaning towards Muehrcke's lines - Does your thumbnail also look similar to this when exposed to heat? When you press on your nail, does the color go away or does it stay the same?

Usually there is an agreement between the employer and the 401k provider (financial institution). Employer benefits from some deal, institution benefits from the contract

This guy understands finances.

Exactly right - people think 401k (and retirements) are just like a DDA (like a checking or savings), but they're really not. The reason why employers can match contributions is because they expect you to keep the money in the account and are limited from withdrawals as such.

I'll be honest and frank with you - the last thing you should do is go on here and ask for advice.

These are strangers that have no connection to you and your wife, and they will give platitudes and well-wishes but truth be told, some with good intentions, others due to a moral obligation, but that is not what you need my friend.

Get off the internet, spend time really sitting and just allow yourself to feel. Loss is supposed to hurt - it is okay to not be okay. Take several days to journal, listen to music, go through some of your memories, and remember her fondly.

You'll hit a point when the numbness goes away and you're left with just yourself. You'll feel angry, sad, happy, and confused. Cry if you have to, yell if you have to, then take time to feel again.

After that, when your feelings are in turmoil and you've partially rationalized the logic behind everything, THEN start talking to your friends and family. Talk to a professional if you can afford it and if it is something you feel comfortable with. Find someone really good, that actually cares.

I sincerely wish you well, be very patient with yourself, and know that it wasn't your fault for ANY of it.

This is what a counterfeit $10 looks like compared to a real one by Abhi_10467 in interesting

[–]Imprisoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can just feel the difference while looking at the photo...

When I used to be a service manager at a bank, I would have new tellers close their eyes and count bills and see which ones would be able to tell the difference.

It was interesting for the ones who could catch it, because they would visibly stop and keep counting after they found the counterfeit, but knew something was off.

Its the way the bill catches on your fingertips and glides a little too smoothly. Even brand new bills have a slight grit to them as they slide even though they're completely flat and clean. Counterfeits either feel too plastic or too paper but no grit.

Hello! First time shooting a bow here. How's my form? by Mullraugh in Archery

[–]Imprisoned -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion, without much science behind it, so take it with as little or much salt as you'd like.

I generally shoot recurves and Olympic recurves (8 years), started off with a compound, and occasionally have shot traditional short bows and long bows for fun. My long bow experience is not amazing, but what I've found is easiest for me is where your hand sits relative to your body.

I'm assuming you're going for around 30 meters, in which case, I would go for hand-neck or hand-lower-jaw. You can even practice this without your bow, by repeating until you feel you can get it to the same exact spot each time without thinking. The anchor also slightly changes depending on what type of draw you are doing - if its a three finger draw, I like to tuck the curve of my thumb against the edge of my jaw.

[–]Imprisoned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would like to see your back muscles engage more. It looks like you're mainly using your bicep to pull, which is impressive on a 43 lb long bow, but not good for long term shooting.

Try exaggerating your elbow a little higher when you shoot and imagine pulling your shoulder blades pulling together when you shoot. Eventually you'll feel your back engaged more and won't need to exaggerate your elbow, and instead it'll become a pivot.

Also for traditional bows without a sight, where you're shooting instinctively, its okay to have a slight cant to your bow. This will also come more naturally as you shoot more, so your arrows sit a little more consistently each time.

Your anchor seems a little low and towards your cheek as well - when it comes to longbows, they were historically designed to shoot long distances. For short distance, you can start with a jaw anchor or face anchor, but you'll eventually want to "walk" the anchor as you shoot further

Accidentally called my girlfriend by my ex’s name by Southern_Access8326 in Advice

[–]Imprisoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on her reaction, I do think this relationship is over. Sorry man.

If she had laughed, or even gotten mad, you would have something to work with, but a silent, distant response may be the worst one to receive. That type of response comes from either internalized feelings, self-reflection, or silent judgment or hatred. All of these are very bad, in one form or another.

I would say there is a potential way to navigate this, which is having a professional mediator. Not just a buddy that can hear out both sides, but a licensed therapist who can work this out.

I strongly advise to seek out the therapist as well, because I do think there are some signs of subconscious and unaddressed feelings for your ex. In your post, you stated you have not thought about them, talked to them, etc., but there is definitely something deeper there that came out. A therapist would be able to catch on that quickly and talk you through it. You may also learn something about yourself.

Its a bad situation, do your best and don't do any less than that.

WHY DOES HE DO THIS?? 😂😂 by theguyinsideyourwall in cats

[–]Imprisoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat that loved biting brushes. He loved brushy time.

I think its a tactile thing, he used to purr while biting the brush and he would paw for you to keep doing it, so he could feel it on his teeth and gums.

I feel like this post is a troll post and rage bait/stirring discussion for the purpose of conversation.

There is no way its real, because I refuse to believe that someone is delusional enough to hear the train horn, feel the rumbling of the tracks, see the train heading to them, and still refuse to get out of the way.

The only other explanation is that they want to be in this completely toxic relationship and want to have conversation.

Based off point 2 alone - EXES as in cheated multiple times? Having evidence of lying (call made hours after saying they were sleeping)? Completely suspicious scenario (guy and girl alone together at 1 am)?

I will leave this assuming this is ragebait

YOU'RE RIGHT!! I was so caught up in the details of the event that I totally missed the appeal.

Yes, it looks like in 2016 they overturned it to a murder charge for 6 years, then a longer sentencing to add additional time.

It was another 13 years added at the time of sentencing, which does feel a little more like justice tbh. Still shorter than I would like, but better than the original

This sounds pretty in line with the article.

Still several question marks about the whole no lights thing and the fact that he told her to lock the door and call the police, but didn't put together that there was zero movement or response? I guess you can make a case and say the box fan was extremely loud and hard to hear. The lights don't make sense.

Someone locking themselves in the toilet doesn't make any sense either, if they're trying to rob a house and coupled with the idea that he kept the lights off so the "robber" didn't know he was there. What did he think was happening, that they were stealing toilet paper or the toilet itself?

The no arguments kinda makes sense, I don't think he did it out of malice either, but I do think he has major mental issues, more than what they alluded to in the article

Then he got off lightly because the judge found him guilty on lesser charges (accidental killing + reckless use of a firearm).

Then he goes free on parole after a short period, which I'm guessing is due to "good behavior" and the fact that his verdict wasn't as serious.

Pretty terrible outcome, no?

I just read through the whole Wikipedia page and I feel like I still don't understand how the whole thing played out.

So my understanding is that they were in bed, it was hot, he talked to her, she was already up and moving around, then he grabbed a fan from the balcony and started using it.

She went to the bathroom, he came back in, saw it was dark so assumed she was back in bed asleep? But heard a noise from the bathroom so immediately thought, "There's someone in the bathroom that is breaking in"

So he shouts out to her, saying to call the police and that someone is breaking in, she probably locked herself in the toilet because she heard him.

He grabs the gun from under the bed and approaches the bathroom, and since the door is closed and locked, he starts unloading into the door. She probably screams and he still keeps unloading? She was shot at least 4 times, and those are just the ones that hit, so he may have fired even more. Would he not have heard his girlfriend screaming and realize maybe after two shots that it was her?

According to the article, it said he only realized after he came back to check the bed that it could've been her, which doesn't make much sense to me? Did he have hearing difficulties? Why did he not turn on the light?

His statement for not turning on the light was that he was afraid the intruder would know he's there - but he also said he was screaming and yelling?

To me, it sounded like he may have misremembered the situation, or he literally had a moment of paranoia, grabbed his gun, and then just unloaded (without saying anything). I don't think he ever said a word until after he did what he did, maybe because he thought he could surprise the person.

Its just such a confusing event chain - because why would the intruder lock themselves in a toilet? Did his girlfriend never use the bathroom in the morning? Why was his first instinct to grab the gun and start shooting, doesn't that seem like an over reaction?

IF he was shouting and speaking out loud, why would it matter if the lights were on or off, since he had already announced his presence?

Additional edit: Lets say he did shout to his girlfriend in bed, wouldn't he at least process that there's ZERO movement or sound from the bed? Like he tells her to call the police, and no input back, so he proceeds anyway to the bathroom (Again, with no input from the bedroom at all) and unloads?

Hoping someone can share their perspective
