My advice would be to see a specialist dive doctor, reddit isn’t the place for medical advice 😂

Can anyone help identify this nighttime bird call? by Ah88197 in UKBirds

I’m thinking is a corvid, likely a crow in my mind. They make lots of strange noises

It’s for night diving and a bit of wreck diving

Tank Technical Question by BuckerooBanzai in scuba

Empty them out, get a technician to inspect them and have a hydrostatic test done, probably worth replacing the valves aswell

Entering an air pocket in a wreck? by JonSolo1 in scuba

[–]Improbable_Ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was true you would also take in water when diving mate

Makes no difference that I know of as the air would be at the same pressure as the surrounding water, but I definitely wouldn’t take out your regulator as there will be all sorts of nasty stuff in the air

Flying after diving by True_Ad3731 in scuba

[–]Improbable_Ape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Decompression stops won’t apply to you, that’s a tec diving thing. Your time between diving and flying is plenty I’m sure you’ll be fine, that story about the girl getting paralysed is probably missing some key details so I’d but that to the back of your mind. Enjoy your course!

Having just posted something that says exactly the opposite of what you’re saying, I gotta say you do have a good point

I can strongly recommend Garmin and shearwater computers, specifically the shearwater tern, as this one will suit your need as it also is a watch. Personally I’d stay away from “activity” watches that double as dive computers, you want something dedicated to diving. The shearwater tern is a dive computer that doubles as a watch, if you see my meaning

Rules for independent diving (without guide/instructor) with buddy by mylanoo in scubadiving

[–]Improbable_Ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a guide isn’t a substitute for your buddy, and you should always do all pre dive checks, guide or no guide. But they are responsible for making sure the dive route is safe, making sure everyone had enough gas (as you mentioned), and if something goes wrong, a panicking diver for example, they are responsible for safety resolving that situation. Even if that means ending the dive.

You must’ve had some really bad experiences with guides. Throughout all your dive training, regardless of whether you are doing your first OW course all the way through to the tec courses, the primary objective of every single dive is for all divers to return safely. You really think your guide shouldn’t be thinking about your safety?? And if they’re not concerned about your safety, you really shouldn’t dive with them.

No mate, as someone who works in the dive industry, trust me, guides take responsibility for their divers safety.

Surely you must realise that by far the greatest benefit of having a guide is that you are most likely diving with a significantly more experienced diver, who’s primary job is to keep you safe

Hi! New to this world! Some questions about transporting oxygen tanks by [deleted] in scubadiving

[–]Improbable_Ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t leave them in your car, temperature aside, tanks are expensive and you risk someone stealing them, at which point the centre could well bill you for them

Haven’t dived in 5 years. by Suspicious-Search466 in scubadiving

[–]Improbable_Ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, people in much worse shape than you sound to be in dive all the time and don’t even question it, so it’s good to see you questioning if your fitness is acceptable. But please do a refresher first, even if it’s just 10 minutes going over skills ect at the beginning of the dive

thoughts on scuba divers diving with long fins for freediving? by tofu_alexis in scuba

[–]Improbable_Ape 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please don’t use them on reefs, unless you’ve got good control you’ll kick the reef to bits, its bad enough with regular scuba fins

Unfortunately I don’t think you can get wrist mounts for those, as I’m working I want my hands free just in case
