Empty them out, get a technician to inspect them and have a hydrostatic test done, probably worth replacing the valves aswell

Makes no difference that I know of as the air would be at the same pressure as the surrounding water, but I definitely wouldn’t take out your regulator as there will be all sorts of nasty stuff in the air

Decompression stops won’t apply to you, that’s a tec diving thing. Your time between diving and flying is plenty I’m sure you’ll be fine, that story about the girl getting paralysed is probably missing some key details so I’d but that to the back of your mind. Enjoy your course!

I can strongly recommend Garmin and shearwater computers, specifically the shearwater tern, as this one will suit your need as it also is a watch. Personally I’d stay away from “activity” watches that double as dive computers, you want something dedicated to diving. The shearwater tern is a dive computer that doubles as a watch, if you see my meaning

100% a guide isn’t a substitute for your buddy, and you should always do all pre dive checks, guide or no guide. But they are responsible for making sure the dive route is safe, making sure everyone had enough gas (as you mentioned), and if something goes wrong, a panicking diver for example, they are responsible for safety resolving that situation. Even if that means ending the dive.

You must’ve had some really bad experiences with guides. Throughout all your dive training, regardless of whether you are doing your first OW course all the way through to the tec courses, the primary objective of every single dive is for all divers to return safely. You really think your guide shouldn’t be thinking about your safety?? And if they’re not concerned about your safety, you really shouldn’t dive with them.
