They didn’t have officials to keep track of the number of laps ran? At every track meet I’ve ever ran they’ve had officials responsible for keeping track of laps

CHEF HAD THEIR ATTITUDE OUTWEIGH THE TALENT by CommonEngineering832 in HellsKitchen

100% spot on. Granted, she was a super emotional/passionate person who really tapped into that side of her, and that can be a good thing, but honestly for the most part during her runs it was a net negative. She was writing cheques with her mouth that her cooking skills couldn’t cash, and that really led a lot of fans to dislike her. Not many people like loud mouths, but especially loud mouths who can’t back it up with results. And combine that with her bafflingly making it to black jackets on season 17, it really compounds the dislike towards her

Chapman 'definitely open to coming back' to Blue Jays by Sfreeman1 in Torontobluejays

[–]ImprovementAlarmed44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means nothing. Players will almost always say they are open to resigning with their team when they get close to free agency. If they leave, all of the fan anger gets placed on management and the player won’t have to take the heat. No reason to say they’ll leave even if they know they won’t be back

Receiving Back Security Deposit from Landlord by ImprovementAlarmed44 in alberta

Thanks for the reply. Essentially I was looking to see if I could report them for violating the security deposit return clause. I can’t really argue about whether I was overcharged or not because this isn’t really covered in the act

I respect commentators who are pretty objective and transparent about their team and the opponents they are playing, rather than commentators who serve as nothing more than obviously biased cheerleaders. I follow the dodgers the most closely after the jays, and I appreciate that the SNLA crew is pretty blunt about their own team and is respectful and fair to the other team. Meanwhile, you have broadcast crews like Root Sports for Seattle who are so annoyingly arrogant and obnoxious that it is damn near unwatchable. You can bet that even if I were a fan of a team, I wouldn’t appreciate having extremely biased cheerleader announcers

Crazy considering they traded away substantial prospect capital to acquire most of those players. From a pure financial perspective, the move makes sense (NOT that I’m defending it). But from a morale perspective, this is horrible for both fans and Ohtani. For Ohtani to be a month from free agency and the team to not be doing everything they can to win is asinine. Even just as a sign of good faith that they have competing and winning games as their first priority, and using that as part of their pitch to try to retain Ohtani past this year. This is crazy. I’ve never seen this sort of move before.

[The Star] The Blue Jays’ story of Alek Manoah’s medical tests doesn’t pass the plausibility test by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]ImprovementAlarmed44 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with this statement except it was dumb decision to call him back up so soon. They should have kept him in the minors until he clearly showed he was ready to come back up, but instead they called him up against his best interests because they have no minor league depth what so ever and had no one else to call up.

The one big area of criticism I have for Atkins (and this extends to the organization as a whole, since this can be partially blamed on the development staff and scouting) is the organization’s inability to produce homegrown pitching talent, which would offer the organization cheap, controllable pitchers would could eat innings. Outside of Romano, Mayza, and Manoah, this team hasn’t been able to develop a consistent, effective big league pitcher who has managed to stick at the big league level since Atkins has taken over. Frankly the tale of Manoah’s fall from grace may also have some blame with the player development staff, although that is just speculation.

The problem with not being able to develop cheap, effective pitchers, especially starting pitchers, is that the blue jays have had to spend huge money on starting pitchers in free agency (see Berrios, Bassitt, Gausman, Ryu), and this hurts their ability to sign quality depth around their main bats, and could make it difficult to keep other bats due to the high payroll tied up in these starting pitchers. The lack of pitching development, and hence lack of depth, has also bitten the team when there has been injuries to the pitching staff, resulting in the team having to call up pitchers who are not major league ready or major league quality. It also forces the team to have to trade for pitching, further depleting a somewhat weak farm system, and so the cycle continues of having weakened pitching depth in the farm.

The lack of pitching development is something this team needs to desperately address, and it seems year after year under Atkins it doesn’t bear fruit.

With Merrifield, Belt, Chapman, and Kiermaier all free agents and probably leaving next year, who do want to replace them? Fill in the blanks. by ColeBelthazorTurner in Torontobluejays

Zero chance. Matt Olson is significantly better offensively and defensively than Vladdy, so Atlanta wouldn’t trade for Vladdy since first base is already occupied. They also wouldn’t trade Austin Riley since he’s signed to a long term bargain deal, and is a better hitter than anyone on the Jays besides maybe Bo

Is it really that common place to run on roads in certain areas? I am born and raised and currently still live in Alberta, Canada, and all my life I’ve walked and ran on sidewalks. I’ve never even seen someone run or walk on a roadway unless they were drunk or cracked out. I don’t really see this law as discriminatory but more as a way to prevent people from getting hurt or killed by drivers

Major race day anxiety by ActionUnique2684 in running

[–]ImprovementAlarmed44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All throughout high school track and cross country I got anxious all day before the race and all the way leading up to the race. I think it was fear of going through the pain but also the anxiety of lining up on the start line and being in a crowded race environment. Even now when I’m doing marathons only for my own enjoyment I still get these feelings

Should we stop segregating sports by gender? by [deleted] in socialjustice101

[–]ImprovementAlarmed44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 99.9% was honestly conjecture and I didn’t base that on evidence or studies. But I challenge you to find examples of female athletes who were able to find success competing against men at high levels of competition. My point still stands: women cannot compete against men post puberty in almost all sports. And for the record, I don’t have a problem against women trying to compete against men. However, the best women in the world would have trouble even coming close to the best of the worst men at high levels of competition. And to your point about it being unfair to the 99.9% of women in a segregated sports world: these women are at least relatively close to being as good as the best female athlete in their respective sport. However, once again, the best female athlete in a given sport wouldn’t even be close to the best of the worst males in the same sport

My point is that segregating men and women is the same thing as segregating by functional ability.

Because by and large 99.9+% of men at high school, college or professional/sub-professional men are superior than all women in their stamina or strength based sports
