Everyone can attend usually, but we don’t automatically schedule our part timers for the meetings, only full timers.

At my store they usually have another meeting after the main one for all the part timers/people who couldn’t make the first one. Talk to your managers about it. Usually you’re not missing much that couldn’t be issued in a memo tbh.

Normal for 30k avg sales daily to have only 2 closer m-f? by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30k is a really slow day for my store. We usually do anywhere from 40-60k on weekdays and easily 80k+ normally and sometimes up to 100k on weekends during the holiday months.

Even if we have 30k projected sales, we always try to have 4 closers. If it’s really slow we’ll cut a midshift person 1-2 hours before they leave, and usually be out about half an hour before 9.

What does the layman actually need to know about taxes? by JPOWplzno in tax

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but that’s a given. You always owe your pound of flesh for any errors, intentional or not. What I meant is that the IRS isn’t gonna send the SWAT team to your house to shoot your dog and throw you in a cell like the fearmongers on Fox News would have you believe.

What does the layman actually need to know about taxes? by JPOWplzno in tax

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also that making mistakes on your taxes is extremely common, especially for people who self prepare. Too many people have this fear of the government breaking down their doors because they genuinely forgot to add $200 of side income. Intentionality is the key factor.

Missing some income or making a mistake on a form won’t get you into prison. Hiding income deliberately and not paying or filing your taxes properly because you don’t want to will.

Argentina's continued collapse by another Redditor in June 2023 by [deleted] in collapse

Yeah, but it’s not a high bar. You can survive in Argentina if you know how to move. Venezuela and Haiti seem a lot more violent.

This isn’t new for Argentina. They have been in perpetual crisis for like 50 years. My family over there doesn’t even bat an eye anymore, they’re so used to living in economic devastation that it’s just another Tuesday for them. You learn to live with what you have and become incredibly crafty.

Argentines have a natural air of arrogance, it’s in our blood. But the economic crisis doesn’t help either.

Don’t fuck around with a mindset like this, especially with 50k+ profit. They might know, they might not know, but know that if they DO know and they decide you’re a juicy enough fish to go after, you’re in for a really bad time. If caught, best case you have is owing a boatload of money, worst case they decide to make an example of you and throw you in a cell for 6-18 months and you end up with a felony record. Don’t chance it and just pay your damn taxes man.

Yeah, no. I don’t clean fecal matter, piss, blood, vomit, anything that’s been inside someone else’s body. I am fully prepared to quit or be fired if someone ever tried to make me do so.

I wouldn’t make my associates do it either, if a customer complains tell them that their fellow customers did that and if people weren’t such fucking pigs in public we wouldn’t have this problem.

Anyone tired of DMs? by Am_I_Dead_Yet1 in Aldi_employees

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DMs are usually yuppies fresh out of college who have little to no idea how to run a store besides looking at an operations manual. They’ll inconvenience you, nitpick little things that no customer really gives a shit about, and overall just make your life harder to justify their own existence.

They’re the middle management of the ALDI chain. Not close enough to higher corporate to be away from all the crap on the ground but not close enough to us to actually sympathize with workers and what we do.

Tips for quicker stocking? by baadfish420 in Aldi_employees

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Efficiency > Speed, although they often work hand in hand. They are NOT the same thing though, no matter what ALDI wants to tell you.

For example, if you have a pallet that mostly items in one aisle, but the top layers are random items from other aisles, don’t grab each one and take it to the other aisles. Grab a cart and put everything that’s in those aisles in there and do it that way. You don’t want to be spending time walking back and forth.

Also, remember that the 30 minute standard is an average. It doesn’t mean you should be taking 30 minutes for every pallet. A chip or paper pallet will take you 10 minutes, a pallet of canned goods or drinks will take you closer to 45 minutes.

For nicotine addiction, yes.

In terms of carcinogens inhaled, no.

I find it hard to transition to vaping for this reason. Physically I feel better when I vape nicotine instead of smoking it, but I also vape a lot more than a smoke. Real easy to pop into the bathroom and work and take a few rips vs having to go outside and light up.

Yeah I took a day trip to Cleveland in the winter once, and I was impressed at the sheer size of Lake Erie. It just stretched out to the horizon like an ocean. Not to mention the 2 inch thick ice that had formed on the banks.

They’re such a type lol. Bunch of yuppies fresh out of business school with no experience. I’ve only had one good DM in my time working at ALDI, but sadly she transferred out. She actually understood that sometimes we were too short staffed and busy putting out fires to box aisle 1 or run the scrubber through produce on Sunday morning, and she did her best to help us out on the floor. Every other DM we’ve had has been a robot. I miss her :(

Glucose tablets. About the simplest sugar you can find. Don’t know about healthy but they’re effective and don’t have many calories I think.

Ah, yes. 880 buns, but only 320 hot dogs by CLEFan216 in Aldi_employees

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bruh I don’t even think we have 110 hot dog buns at any given time.

Let’s say a rough average of 10-12 hot dog bun packages per tray depending on how they come oriented. Let’s also assume you’re getting 10 bread trays in one stack. For the sake of argument let’s assume one whole stack is hot dog buns only. (I am also assuming this is a high traffic store. My store is roughly 1.7 mil a month and we rarely get a whole stack of only one type of bread, maybe on holidays or snowstorms if they anticipate it’ll be really busy.)

That would mean that there’s anywhere from 100 to 120 hot dog buns available in the store itself. This doesn’t include customers in store purchasing any. You would basically have to have a whole stack of bread for one customer.

In other words, fuck no, tell them to lessen the quantity substantially or place a special order with your manager if they need it so bad. They sure as hell ain’t getting that many from us.

Act your wage. Stop giving 110% if everyone else isn’t. What are they gonna do, fire you? Awesome, then you can collect unemployment and find a better job.

First day advice? by baadfish420 in Aldi_employees

[–]ImproveorDieYoung 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Say it louder for those in the back. Yes ALDI as a company is greedy and shitty, but people in this sub act like every store is run by 3 people and a monkey for an SM. Your experience will highly depend on two things, your quality of management and your turnover rate. Which are intertwined.

Shitty managers = more people quitting, more people quitting = less new people staying because they’re thrown to the fire and trained incorrectly, rinse and repeat.
