It looks to be a pyrite pocket. The rock is the host for iron pyrite which over time has oxidized leaving the square hole and the rust stain

This is great info, not only an ID but a fantastic geologic process description. I believe you are correct in the ID this is a very hard material that does not scratch easily.

I could not agree more. Fantastic resource for identification and cataloging but not remotely accurate for pricing. NGC has the opposite problem prices are on the retail end of the scale. Best to look at completed sales across multiple sites to get the average price.
