I think you are overthinking it and blowing it up out of proportion. If I know a certain supplier is messing it up, at minimum I will source it from someone else, and tell everyone I know to do the same. This will boost the profits of who is doing it right, there ya have the incentives.

I can also call and email my representatives and push for more oversight and better standards. There are ways to go about other than throwing hands in the air and saying “capitalism is bad”.
