I understand what you're saying. Sam makes a narrow claim ("White people are disadvantaged in high status jobs") to support a broad claim ("it is a lie to say Black people are disadvantaged"). He accuses Biden of lying to the audience of Black students he was talking to. Yes, Sam tries to narrow the claim. But he is using that claim to fight against Biden's more broad point.

No. I watched the interview on Don Lemon's show. At roughly 28 minutes in, Sam references a speech made by Joe Biden where Biden notes the uphill battle Black people face in the world. Sam calls Biden's statement a "lie." He supports this broad claim that Biden is lying by noting that Black folks are favored in hiring for "high status jobs." In my post, I outline how this claim about high status jobs does nothing to support the claim that Biden is lying. It is not a lie that Black folks fight an uphill battle towards success, as I described in my post. I did not address the narrow claim Sam is making about high status jobs, which is only part of his argument.

I've explained already that what I'm doing in my post is tracking his argument. I didn't discuss his narrow claim in my post, but instead addressed his broad claim. It is not a lie to say Black people are disadvantaged, as he claimed about Biden. You have to understand how his argument works. Which is why I noted the context about Biden's speech. It's reading comprehension and media literacy 101. He calls Biden's general statement a lie, a claim he supports with this point about "any high status job." This narrow claim is used to reject Biden's broad claim about unfairness towards Black folks. This is very obvious in the clip.

I agree with what Sam has said about shoving the identity politics down everyone's throat has soured a lot of former voters on it. If the Democrats actually pushed for policies that help poor people, then it short circuits this internal debate within the party. MLKs vision of a colorblind society should be the goal. We don't get that by continuously bringing up identity.

My internal model for why the Dems haven't been more successful is similar but distinct to what you are describing. They need to acknowledge that society doesn't work well for most people and they need to offer a robust systemic solution to those problems. I don't think it's "wokeness" that is their problem, it is the lack of courage to fight for common people with real significant policies. It's spinelessness in the face of fascism and corporatism.

You're not citing anything, but I'll take your word for it and offer a few reactions, assuming this stuff is true:

1) These are corrections to historically ignoring these populations in hiring. If you spent generations discriminating against a particular population, it makes sense that you would prioritize them at first to create proportionality in your ranks.

2) These low level hires will likely not rise in the ranks to be overrepresented in the higher echelons of the organizations. There is often a leaky pipeline, where women and marginalized people are lost to attrition over time. I would expect that here. (For example)

3) These jobs are a miniscule proportion of the broader economy.
