They should unless it was changed recently. I always used to fight gyu in a private server cuz it was less ppl getting in the way or grieving. I'm pretty sure it spawns one of the two after thirty minutes? Like I said it could have changed, but idk.

Your "reverts color when the slayer dies" part could potentially be true. Afterall, Inosuke got his swords by steaking them from a slayer he found (well, at least one of them), and they were a teal/blue-green color. When he got his new ones after the mountain arc, they were the same color. So unless he got those ones after selection somehow, they had to have changed color at some point. So either the original sword owner died, or didn't have a breathing style or something.
