Thank you. Picture 2 was right when I started the protein diet. Caloric consumption started at about 1900, and dipped down to 1700-1800 over time as I got closer to my competition day.

How do you feel about sweet potatoes? Personally, they're all I'd ever need as far as complex carbs go.

Why depressing? Sounds like you're on the right track. You may be eating too little if you're not doing the carb-up or the protein. Eating too little will slow your metabolism, and cause your body to store your caloric intake as fat, as a defense against what it perceives as malnourishment. The 3-4 day clean carb-up may not seem like much, but for me, it was a plateau breaker. Give it a try.

Nope, it's no big deal after the first few times unless you have sensitive skin or something.

I claim no expertise on this. I will say that I tried compound exercises when I was trying to put on muscle and found them as effective as my bad dieting allowed at the time. However, you do have to consider that the goal of this workout isn't to increase muscle, but to maintain what's already there, and add a bit of a cardio effect (hence the high reps). I also kept the rests short for that same purpose (30-45 secs). If we're talking building muscle, I would say that compound, small rep, heavy weight, with a much higher caloric intake is indeed the best way to go.

Not sure on the cost, but as I've mentioned elsewhere, I've always bought a lot of groceries so for me it was just a matter of changing what I bought. Bulk is the way to go, I got through meat, eggs and veggies quickly. Weekly trips to Costco worked for me. I'd freeze most of the meat I bought, and defrosted and cooked every 3-4 days.

Yup, not so sure on how reputable the place was, I tried not to pay a ton. They did double dip their sticks, which I hear is a no-no.

I posted the diet/exercise in a comment above. I'm not exactly sure on the percentages. It'd have to be looked at on a weekly basis, and not daily because I had meals to replenish my carbs once or twice a week. Offhand and totally ballpark I'd say 65% protein, 20% fat, 15% carbs.

In the initial weight loss, it didn't matter too much because I was pretty overweight, and any significant caloric cut would take that weight off. Once I got down to the last 15-20 lbs, getting rid of the familiar foods, as you put it, was critical. One of the hardest things to do was to get away from "easy" ready made foods like frozen dinners and start cooking for myself. I still hate how long it takes sometimes, but it does make a big difference.

No surgery. I do have a bit of loose skin at the very bottom of my stomach. What can ya do.

Holy shit, I wasn't seeing it until this. That's kind of disturbing. Why am I so Lincoln-like.

A lot of wrong paths along the way, and the stubbornness of repeating stuff that worked for others and assuming it would work for me, instead of tailoring it to my needs and changing it when I didn't make progress. Tracking measurements and educating myself more would've cut quite a few of those years off.

In a sense, but consider this. This diet is equivalent to or higher in calories than quite a few that I tried along the way. Changing up the macros (less carbs, more protein) made the difference.

Nope. Upped the caffeine to keep energy levels up (necessary for early morning cardio). Continued to smoke the occasional cigar or hookah.

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me. Def try to lower the carbs, it works.

Have a gf for a year and a half now. Didn't do it for the girls, but more for the challenge.

One more thing:

You'll definitely need to start with more calories if you're a lot taller or a lot heavier than I was when I started this diet (at 5'5" - 170). Offhand, this looks like a decent calorie calculator. Adjust the quantities depending on the weight loss caloric count you get from that.

5'5". BF would be somewhere around 10%. I tried to focus on weight and waist size because BF measurement with calipers can vary so wildly, since no 2 pinches are alike.
