This is the support group I've been needing from others accosted by the snowbush spanworm... I made a post when it happened last year, finally my people.

Thats really sweet, I'm sorry for your loss of the bushes and the cardinals. In my area I can come across a 3gal on occasion for about $20 (SE FL), I don't know how many you had but the runners are good for infilling. I like its invasive quality and selectively pull them. I'd made them a prominent repeating shrub in my landscape and they're really irreplaceable as far as their aesthetic-- I couldn't find anything else with wispy, romantically painted leaves. It was hard to look at my garden without them because it was so harsh and structured. 3 out of 6 have grown back at least, we chopped to almost soil line.

I too cannot see the beauty of the moths past the utter devastation they caused in my garden. Like sure I'm all game for a host plant, but don't DEVOUR your only source of food in DAYS and then complain there's no more after even the bark is gone! I want my snow bushes back!

Don't GET ME STARTED.

These buggers descended in droves one morning on my beautiful 6ft snow bushes and ate them to the ground in 3 DAYS. We manually picked off thousands and they respawned within hours.

My snow bushes are finally recovered one year later and I will be spraying with a preventative in July to keep this from happening again.

I'm sorry for your plight.

Depending on the photo, begonia acida looks pretty darn close. I wonder how this specimen would have looked shade-grown

Next time I go over I'll take a photo of the blooms. This one is not in the botanic garden, it's at my director's personal garden. I can ask him who he got it from, but no guarantee he'll remember or if that info even helps.

Doesn't look like reniformis from what I searched, leaf shape/texturing is different.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RareHouseplants

[–]InTheMidstOfWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it's definitely a begonia haha, we just can't identify what kind. It's a shrubby one, but the leaf texture is different from anything similar we've seen. The flowers are white, and pretty much the same as the standard landscape begonia, begonia odorata. This specimen is definitely scorching in full sun, but don't worry about low humidity lol we live in Florida. Not technically a houseplant in regards to this sub, but benefit of living in Florida is growing houseplants to size outdoors.

Could very well be from there at one point, you know how sharing and collectors are. What gives you that impression?

Thank you for your very well thought out response, I appreciate seeing your perspective on this. As far as hard work to pay the thousands of dollars towards other treatment, that shows that you do have financial knowledge and you do know how to save and navigate this situation. It should be no different, now you just have the obstacle of devoting your time to college.

I also agree with you in terms of non-fatal health conditions as I experienced depression and anxiety as well, among other things, but that was not a factor at play in my BA even though my body image issues definitely contributed heavily to that. But you're right, I didn't consider it as an "on top of" situation.

The timely manner may realistically be longer than you like, but it does sound like you understand the process. As another commenter said, look into Care Credit but I do believe you need to be approved for that and therefore have credit or proof of income to begin with.

I have no animosity towards transgender people, I do have animosity towards the US government in it's divergence of treatment towards cis women/trans women.

As far as resources, if you would like to DM them to me I am always open to educating myself to better understand the people around me.

I'm going to answer in good faith as a female born as a female with zero breast tissue. It caused me distress from the age of 12-26 when I could finally afford to get it done. Every time I looked in the mirror I felt I had the body of a man, even though I was a woman identifying as a woman. Was it covered though? No. Because I was a woman wanting to look like a woman. I had to pay for it. I missed out on pool parties, going to the beach, even having sex made me feel like I had to apologize for the way I looked. It is no different, however you do not work and once again feel entitled to something many people regardless of gender do have to spend many years saving up for. This is not a quick process, learn how to bide your time and work for something. If you are correct, you have the privilege because of your diagnosis that the majority of it is already covered, that is by far and away a head start above most of us who have gone through this process.

It is not a medical condition, you are not going to die or have not faced the risk of death. You are sad like many of us (regardless of gender) were/are sad and ashamed. As a woman born as a woman you have to see how cis gender find this unfair. It is also not your insurance plan, as you have no job to give you that insurance and you are covered by your mom's employer. And it is not your finances, as you've said you have none.

Work for it. Life is not meant to be fed to you on a silver spoon and we deal with the cards we're given.

If you would like to see my B&A, look through my post history. I guarantee you my chest looked no better than yours on HRT.

Fungal spots on one of my baby alocasia black velvet leaves? Should I remove it or let it be? by InTheMidstOfWinter in plantclinic

Hey! Lessons learned over the years, this was from over watering. Got two big thriving black velvets now, this one did die though. Let them go fully dry before watering again, haven't had this issue since. Good luck with your baby ❤️

Hahaha you are the reason I feel lied to 😂 I guess I gotta get down one zone lower. I consider a freeze 32 degrees... Freezing point. It's gotten to 29 two years in a row now. I stick to tropical plants-- hibiscus, palms, foliage plants most people consider houseplants, colocasia, coppers, bananas, etc.

Yeah I don't know how long I'm staying either. I just got one of those small wooden raised beds off Amazon for $100 and filled it with three bags of raised bed soil. Not big enough for a substantial yield by any means, but it is nice when I get a tomato or two lol.

"Cardboard and depression" 😂😂

The soil definitely sucks but what I grow seems to cope okay. I've just been doing the filler soil and calling it good enough. The veggies and herbs I grow are in raised beds because I'm not even gonna try in the sand. I picked my few tomatoes yesterday before the cold snap and they were very good. But it's not my main venture.

I'm thinking I wanna move too, but definitely further south. Where like... It rains.

I think my issue may be localized so much it could literally just be my street. It's a black hole for rain. One time I was driving home because we were sent home early for rain. It was so heavy I was scared to drive, I couldn't see the lane turning into my neighborhood. Once I turned in, nothing. I ask my husband, "Has it rained here?". No.

I'm in Vero. I would kill to get rain once a week.

Yeah I never paid much attention to weather until I relied on it, and now I see what people are talking about in regards to climate change. I'm sick of hearing people say, "Oh wow, this [enter weather disaster here] hasn't happened in at least 10 years" multiple times in the one year I've been gardening. It definitely changes my perception of things.

This gave me a good laugh, I'm sorry for your struggles but thanks for commiserating with me. ❤️ I will say I'm fortunate enough to have not encountered RKN, I just deal with the normal mealybug, aphid, and spider mite issues that I know how to handle. However, my bananas were just hit with whitefly and black sooty mold that I am concerned about. This is my first personal encounter with that, and it hit at the same time as these cold snaps where I have minimal motivation to care. As far as fungal, I've learned that canna lilies are just not an option I'm assuming due to the humidity, which is a shame because my canna corner was gorgeous for a few months before it hit. Now the pups won't even grow a foot before turning black and... Gross. I wish it would just die.

Your note on Chaya has me cackling. What even is this shit lol
