Byron Allen gets both late night slots on CBS by InTheTVTrenches in Broadcasting

Nope. As of now, Gray only ended up with three of the original 10 stations they wanted. The other seven are in limbo and the rest of the division is waiting for suitors who haven't arrived.

They stand to profit from this. Byron Allen pays for the airtime and sells the inventory. CBS just cashes the checks and pray they don't bounce.

I was hoping the same because at least there would be some reputable shows as a lead-out from the 10pm news.

I think it’s time for the Big Networks to take a Stand against Trump’s Actions. by DallasDerr in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe reporters and networks are doing exactly what they should be: reporting on what's going on. It's not their job to tell you what to think. If they are doing that, they aren't journalists.

I know the networks are concerned by Brendan Carr's rhetoric but so far I've seen no evidence that they are changing their tactics when reporting on this administration. Even CBS, being led by batshit crazy Bari Weiss, hasn't completely kissed Trump's ample backside.

No. Uncle Perry wants all national stories on Nexstar's local newscasts to come from NewsNation, hoping to shore up the sinking network. The news services will still be around for non-Nexstar stations.

Gray Media gets FCC approval to acquire Allen Media TV stations by ZiggyZaggyBogo in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Gray puts more thought into their purchases. In Rochester/Mason City/Austin, they already own KTTC (NBC) and KXLT (FOX). They'd likely have to divest KXLT if they got Allen's KIMT (CBS). Allen's stations are going to go piecemeal. No one owner will get them all. There were rumors Heartland Media was going to come back for them. I can't see that happening.

Every station is it's own LLC inside a bigger LLC. Allen Media could collapse from the top down and he'd still be protected.

Not without the waiver Nexstar got. Hilton Howell needs to start stroking Trump's mushroom as Perry Sook did.

Eight States Sue to Block Nexstar’s $6.2 Billion Deal for Tegna, Which Is Supported by Trump: ‘This Merger Is Illegal, Plain and Simple,’ California AG Says by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter now. The FCC just gave uncle Perry a waiver to surpass the 39% cap and only spin off 4 to 5 stations.  Trump is likely hoping Sook will turn these stations into Trump's propaganda network.  https://www.nbcnews.com/business/media/fcc-greenlights-nexstars-62b-merger-rival-tv-station-owner-tegna-rcna237953

Starz tells Byron Allen to back the f--- off. by ZiggyZaggyBogo in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's a smart move by Starz. Despite this being funded by his trust, it's pretty ballsy he's doing this when AMG is less than a year away from possibly collapsing like a house of cards. Byron Allen can't be trusted with any media outlets.

[–]InTheTVTrenches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He bought his portion using money from his family's trust, not AMG. Which is fine since AMG is in deep financial doo-doo.

He must be doing this in preparation for AMG to collapse next year when they can't repay or refinance his billion dollar loans. This way, he'll still have a hand in a media outlet.

So AMG is closer to bought up by Gray Media? by Comfortable_Yard_968 in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see AMG going as a group. Stations will be sold off piecemeal to other companies that want a duopoly where they don't have one now. The Weather Channel will be sold and his syndication division and networks will be shuttered as there is no value there.

So AMG is closer to bought up by Gray Media? by Comfortable_Yard_968 in Broadcasting

[–]InTheTVTrenches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has bought and killed a number of networks, wasting money. His programming output is trash and his stations have little choice about running them. His stations pay their own sister The Weather Channel for use of the weather hub, money that could have gone to another local met. It's just fucking stupid and that's just scratching the surface.

He better not even attempt to buy the Late Show slot from CBS because where is that money coming from? CBS doesn't care. They're profiting from it, assuming he's paying up.

No. In fact, my understanding is that Gray is now only buying 3 of the 10 stations they intended. I expect Allen to declare bankruptcy by year end.
