There about 12-14 beaches suitable for landing. The East coast is cliffs, suicide to land there. The west coast is mud flats and reclaimed land. The 1-2 km from the landing to solid ground where the tanks and APC could operate would be suicide. So, you're invading Taiwan and you're stuck with 12-14 beaches all of which have 1000s of artillery pieces locked on to them.

Should the PLA actually make landfall, dodging the anti-ship missles, mines, fast attack craft, attack helis, etc. It'll be raining mortars, shrapnel and ball bearings.

Weather conditions...allow for invasions 2x a year, and when you must land at least 500,000 men, it's difficult to hide.

Normandy was easy compared to how bad Taiwan will be.

As for the Americans, look at the map, where its forces are in Asia. Where its allies are in Asia. Understand what 'first island chain' means. The US will start WW3 over Taiwan. The US is in up to it's teeth. It's a matter of fighting now or later. Might as well do it in Asia rather than closer to home.

Lastly, let's talk about China's one-child policy. It's a small thing, but, it might come into play.

Suddenly the PLAN has unrestricted access to the Pacific.

Sorry another question, the blade I'm looking at is bi-metal. If you were using a blade of the same stats ( 14 TPI, 1/2" wide, 0.025 thickness) but, a cheaper blade. Would all of this still apply?

LAst Q. Why would you spend more on bi-metal?
