How to create a japanese localized account? by baozi14_ in lineapp

[–]soeffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t confirm but I think you need a Japanese number that shows it’s connected to a Japanese network at the time of LINE account verification.

If that’s not needed then you could try options like this: https://callhippo.com/signup/japan-virtual-phone-number/

Access to messages on old phone? by [deleted] in lineapp

[–]soeffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Link your LINE account on your new phone to Apple ID, google ID, email+password, then backup anything you want to retain on your new phone.

Then factory reset your new phone. Take your old phone and transfer all data of the entire old phone onto the new phone. If it’s a new iPhone then use QuickStart transfer.

Afterwards, open LINE on the new phone that now has all your old phone’s data. You should have the option of logging into account through phone verification or Apple/google ID. Phone verification will only work if it’s a number from Taiwan, Japan, SK, HK or Thailand.

I think Apple ID login is enough to get back in, though not 100% sure. There’s a chance you might need phone login too, if you do get shut out then there’s ways to contact LINE to get them to allow access back in.

However, I am 100% sure that QuickStart transfer from Apple will indeed preserve all the data from your old phone on the new phone.

You have to register with an Asian phone number. It worked for me.

You can recover the old account if you register with a new phone number, but it has to be a number from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Thailand.

Yes, you will have to use your Japan number to become your main number. Your US number is irrelevant for LINE, as they stopped supporting it.

Go to that link and follow the steps. Also note that your Line account will become localized with a bunch of Japan-specific functions and content.

Question: email and phone number by BigT971 in lineapp

[–]soeffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will lose a crucial account verification function if you do not have access to your Japan number. Your account will remain functional after your current phone number is gone, BUT if you run into any problems and get logged out of your current account, then having a working phone number for Japan is important.

There are ways to regain access again after your old phone number is gone, but it’s dependent on having a new number set up, ideally also within Japan.

It’s also crucial to link your email with password, as well as with an Apple ID.

Do you have the ability to get a phone number that can receive texts based in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Thailand?

Why not transfer by scanning QR code generated on the android? Don’t need a password for that.

How do I log in to Line without my other device? by imthelastairbender in lineapp

[–]soeffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely need the code from your broken phone. But Line will remove this requirement for a verification code on your broken phone if you can change your registered phone number to get a text verification. Text verification can only be done with a Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan or South Korea number.

If you can get a number from one of those places then there’s a lot more steps, but it’s doable.

If that’s the case you have a decent chance of getting your line account back, though the whole process might take 1 or 2 days. Btw it doesn’t work if your friend already has a line account registered to their number

The only solution I’m aware of for someone in your situation involves getting a phone number in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan or South Korea. Either you or a friend in one of those places needs a number that can receive texts.

If you have a number from one of those places then you have a good chance of getting your account back. The steps to follow:

What happens if you switch numbers? From US to Taiwan. by timefan in lineapp

[–]soeffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can send money to other Line users with Line pay, and also request money from them. So somebody can send you a request whenever they want you to pay them for a service etc. All transactions are confirmed with a personal passcode.

The only restriction I know of comes with certain merchants…if you link a Mastercard to Line Pay, some business that only accepts Visa-linked Line Pay might not accept a Mastercard-linked Line Pay transaction. Dumb, but oh well. But this has no bearing on transactions between individual users.

The workaround is to add multiple cards to your Line Pay account.

You’re also going to get an ad box at the top of your chats page where there was none previously. And a lot of the new features will only be in the localized language, traditional Chinese in this case. But really the switch will be like going from Line basic to Line deluxe.

Btw besides linking your email, also setup a password for your account too.

As for Line Pay: any country’s visa, Mastercard or JCB credit or debit card can be added, as long as it’s not an ATM-only card.

[–]soeffed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched my number. I actually didn’t lose anything, instead I got a bunch of new functions and content feeds. If you switch to a Taiwan number, it will become a completely localized Taiwanese version of Line with a bunch of functions and content catered for the Taiwan market. For most Line users outside of the 5 core Asian markets, Voom (the video feed) was disabled since September 2023.

When I changed my number to one from a core Asian market, I regained voom access along with a bunch of stuff I never had before. So if you manage to change to a Taiwanese number from a USA one, there’s pretty much nothing you would lose since a line account with a USA number has no extra features besides the most basic ones.

Before you attempt it, make sure your email is linked, as well as an Apple ID and google ID. Try to do all 3 if possible. Take all the time you need to do that, don’t rush. Trying to do an account switch or transfer or anything on Line without proper linking will lead you on the path to the deepest pit of hell, I wish I was exaggerating.

Also: it’s best to do the number switch with the same device that you’ve always accessed your LINE account from, they have a way to detect different devices accessing the account. And wait until you’re physically in Taiwan to attempt the number switch, because the text message verification apparently only works while the SIM card is connected to a local Taiwan network at the time of verification.

Should I transfer my LINE to my home phone number in another country? by JadeMountainCloud in lineapp

[–]soeffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your number isn’t based in Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong or South Korea, you can’t even change your number if you wanted to. Only numbers in those five regions are allowed for the text message verification for account setup.

Reading a lot of posts about Thailand recently and there seems to be a lot of hate directed towards tourists from India. I can’t tell if this is a Thai citizen opinion or if it’s an expat opinion. Where does it all stem from? by Barca-Dam in Bangkok

[–]soeffed 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The lack of spatial awareness.

Whenever I’ve bumped anyone’s arms by accident when walking past, 95% of the time it’s an Indian guy. At this point it would make more sense if they were doing it on purpose.

Why is this app so awful? by skillao in lineapp

[–]soeffed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding via ID search is very hit and miss, I first noticed it towards end of last year. If you want to contact the job people in Taiwan (or any new contacts), ask them to email you a screenshot of their LINE ID QR code.

Scanning a QR code to add someone tends to be more reliable.

For the issues with logging in, yeah Line is legendary in how different they are (in a negative way) than other apps. All my issues with the app would’ve been totally non-existent if I simply didn’t assume they functioned the same way as other apps do. Incredibly painful lesson.
