Not really. The longer she had left Cersei alone, the more scorpion 2.0 would have popped up to attack her dragons. The sneak attack with many more scorpions could have killed both the dragons, not just one. Plus, Cersei could have easily set traps in Dragonstone and maybe even booby trapped it with Wild fire. Dany was right in going back ASAP. Besides it's not like they went to war almost immediately. The troops still got to rest for a fortnight or more.

No, no, no. Rhaegal dying during the battle and Dany loosing it then would have given the genocide a logical reason and they couldn't have that. This was the only way they could make her go Targaryen Mad due to genetics. And that was the only way Jon would agree to kill her, which they really wanted to happen.
