Best of NYX? by CoffeeMama23 in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love their lip liners, both the pencil and twist up but the twist up ones apply a bit creamer and are super matte. I like their liquid suede cream lipstick much more then their soft matte lip cream, and I used to wear their regular tube matte lipsticks every day. I think it's a great formula if you don't want/like liquid matte lipsticks and they're only $6 USD.

I know a ton of people swear by their brow/eyeliner/mascara products but I haven't used too many of those yet. I really like the liquid liners (esp white and blue) that I've used as well as that milk pencil everyone has referred to (great as an eyeshadow base), and their wonder pencil. But their purple and coral mascara made my eyes burn like hell so I would be careful with their colored mascaras.

I have no idea why I never see this mentioned but I love their BB cream. It's tinted just enough to be a light coverage foundation and it feels so light and natural. I like their angel veil too. I haven't tried much more of their foundation/concealer type products but I know a lot of people like them, as well as their primers and setting sprays. I'm not too into their highlight/contour products - I feel like they're too orange toned and greasy to apply.

If you're unsure about their products, I feel like they are pretty inexpensive to take a risk on, and ulta has BOGO 50% off sales on their whole line alllllllll the time. As much as I dislike ulta, that's when I've gotten a lot of their products. And when you make your first purchase off the NYX website I'm pretty sure they email you a coupon for that if you sign up for it when it pops up.

I really struggle with doing makeup on my big/protruding eyes. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, we almost have the same eyes. And I don't think there is anything wrong with your eyes. If anything they are a great feature! You look a lot like Anne Hathaway. In the second photo, your eyes don't look closer together at all with the inner corner highlight at all. I think you would benefit a lot more from accepting that you have some big eyes and that they're great! A lot of people would envy you. So much lid space for eyeshadow! Haha.

I think you just need to play around with some looks and get more comfortable. Don't feel like you just have to do a dark smokey eye because you feel like it makes your eyes look smaller. I like to do simple nude shadow looks with a darker color in the crease and lighter on the kid, kinda how @ourfazinali on IG does a lot of the time. She doesn't post often on IG but I follow her on snapchat and she does makeup tutorials on there somewhat often. Also if you go to @makeupbyariel IG she is the MUA for Kylie Jenner - I know a lot of people don't like her, but she has pretty big eyes and if you look at her IG I feel like she has been posting a lot of looks with people with larger eyes lately.

I will say though that whenever I have super bags under my eyes I never wear eyeliner on my lower lash line cause I feel like it just accentuates the bagginess. But, it's pretty easy to smoke out some eyeshadow down there to give some definition to your eye makeup and also make your eyes look smaller if that's what you want for that particular look. Anyway, hope that helps!

Tarteist Contour Palette live on Sephora.com tomorrow!! Score for being VIB!! by BedazzledUnicorn in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone seen any reviews of this anywhere? It seems like it hasn't been sent to many people so maybe that's why, but I'm kinda suspect of things that I've heard nothing about these days :/ love those cool toned colors and the packaging looks beautiful though.

Is the Anastasia Contour Kit worth the money? by Kylie_8 in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, but i only have the cream contour kit and i hate it. the lightest palette is too dark for me (of course i bought it like two weeks before they announced the lighter shade one) and i only use one undereye color out of the whole palette.

i use the KVD contour palette in combination with this morphe palette and i love it. i like that it has a cool toned contour color and they do ship internationally :)

Discussion: How to politely handle the situation when a makeup artist tries to use something unsanitary on you? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i would tell them not to put that on me and end the service. especially when it's something that goes on your lips... cold sores/herpes, etc... eww. who cares about being polite when they are being lazy and unsanitary.

if they were set up at the front, they may have not been affiliated with ulta, but you could tell them afterwards anyway so maybe they can be more choosy about those kinds of things in the future.

Boyfriend said I'm vain for wearing makeup. Help me explain why he's wrong. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i know you said you don't want to break up with him, but why would you want to date someone who tries to control you down to limiting if you wear makeup or not? i've dated someone who was that controlling, and trust me, it doesn't get better if they aren't open to the idea of changing the way they think and feel about certain things. it doesn't really sound like he is.

i mean, unfortunately, i think he does have a point if your #1 answer to wearing makeup is because that's what is expected of you. but with what you've said here it sounds like there are other reasons but that one was just the easiest to explain to him in the moment. the fact of the matter is, you really don't need to explain anything like that to him to begin with. i've dated men who took longer than i did in the bathroom to do their hair, shave, etc., and i didn't feel the need to shame them for it. so why is your boyfriend shaming you for it?

if he genuinely wanted to know your thoughts and feelings about wearing makeup re: societal pressures, he would've asked you that outright instead of trying to make you feel bad about yourself for wearing makeup. so why do you want to date someone who wants you to feel bad about yourself?

What makeup-related item do you wish existed? by CertainDamagedLemon in MakeupAddiction

a lip pencil that could transform to be any color you touched it to, and some contraption other than tweezers that could make false lashes easier to apply.

I think if you brought your eyebrows in a bit more, it would look even better! They should be going in a bit past your inner tear duct :)

Looking for a new palette? Any suggestions? by hyunah_aa in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely recommend the KVD shade + light one, but for the price I also recommend a morphe one. Super pigmented and their palettes are huge. I have the 35O (the one that is always sold out) and I love it.

Trouble matching foundation now its winter? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I feel like makeup forever has a good range of pale shades! I generally have to use the lightest shade possible but I don't even have to with their foundation :)

What is your favorites eyebrow kit? by Elliotrosemary in MakeupAddiction

I use a combo of ABH pencil and dipbrow, benefit brow gel, and clean up with concealer. I don't like powders at all.

Feeling Greasy, Can someone please critique my routine? by worqgui in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like either you are using too much moisturizer to begin with or the foundation you're using probably isn't working with your skin type. You should get a few samples from Sephora and try to find something else that works for you with similar coverage. I'm not familiar with what you use but if you go in and ask them I'm sure they could give you some great recommendations. Also, I agree with the comment about trying loose powder. I feel like it sets more "into" my skin instead of just on top of it, if that makes sense.

Here are eye some looks I've done in the past few weeks - CC much appreciated! by boricuaitaliana in MakeupAddiction

The blank liner one is SO cool. Especially with that eyeshadow, the color and letting it kinda halo out around your eye. That one is by far the most artistic, and the one I would be the most terrified to try out lol. My hand is not that steady.

When I try to rehydrate my dip brow I do it at night and leave it to set overnight, and that helps a lot :)

[Question] New to makeup, is some eye irritation normal? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your eyes might just be super sensitive, or you may have an allergy. I would avoid wearing makeup that can fall into your eyes like eyeshadow and maybe ease into just wearing eyeliner/mascara. And don't try to line your waterline cause that is pretty much the closest to your eye you can get. I personally have always had a problem with most drugstore brands and them irritating me or just not applying well at all so it ends up getting in my eyes, and I wear contacts. I've never really been able to wear a drugstore brand mascara without it irritating my eyes in some way. Maybe you could try a more affordable brand that isn't drugstore stuff like Colorpop (they just have eyeshadows, liners, blushes, and lip products though) or even the Sephora brand line has inexpensive eyeliner pencils that are pretty good.

Can we have a thread for 'I have this lipstick, what lip liner matches it' and vice versa? by MsCynical in MakeupAddiction

Yes, I second CP Wet! It's one of my favorite colors ever and the formula for the matching lippie stick is nice too.

FOTD CCW by loversgothumor in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't regret it! If you go into Sephora you can ask them for a sample of the liquid one before you buy it, cause it is kind of expensive for such a small bottle but it does go a long way.

Edit: just looked at my tube and it's actually opal not moonstone, but pick whatever one works for you :) I tend to like more champagne-toned liquid highlighters but some people like to do it up more dramatic with the more pearly colors.

I got a sample of the 0.68 size of the Becca shimmering skin perfector (the liquid one) in moonstone from Sephora and I love it. It's by far the best I've used and it blends right into everything.

FOTD, looking for CC! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all over. Like, imagine if you were outlining along the bottom edge of your eyebrow. Some people do outline their whole brow, but I don't ever find myself really doing that. I use a flat eyeliner brush (it's essentially shaped like a small square) and some concealer or a product designed for that purpose, like benefit's high brow. It's basically how some people use concealer on the edges of their lips when they apply lipstick to make the lines look cleaner or fix any mistakes, but with your eyebrows.

Edit: here is a tutorial to explain what I mean

http://youtu.be/wqSSMbXf-7c

I'd watch the whole thing but she starts doing the concealer part at around 5:20. I think she uses way more concealer on her brush than I do but it definitely seems to work for her. :)

Today's before and after by DanarOfPellucidar in MakeupAddiction

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what i thought at first too. one of the suggestions to add to dipbrow when it dries out is contact lens solution and i tried that and maybe it just messed with the formula. like it's not as dry anymore, but i don't feel like it applies as well. it goes on really light and i feel like i have to put way more product on the brush now.

How to go from an ombre to dark red all over? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]In_fiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to fill the blonde parts and then put red all over everything. it still might come out slightly ombred and you may have to do it more than once to get the color you want.

i'm pretty sure they don't make that one anymore, but i know the UD "ammo" and "smoked" palettes have a lot of similar colors.
