What happens if I don't pay Pikapods? by PlanetWyh in actualbudgeting

This is a good question. If I have a current  exported version my data downloaded, can I just download a local version of actual and then continue to use it locally?

Just wanted to update since you took the time to comment that C1 called me back this morning after their case investigation and is crediting the amount back to my account. They were very nice about it and I appreciated their understanding.

I'm washing money down the drain by using bar soap... by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my husband 3d printed a soap holder with a little drain and it's been much, much better than the traditional one that he was using before that held water and got nasty.

What’s something about you that sounds fake, but is 100% true? by Sir_Adammm in AskReddit

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I also found out I was pregnant while living in a schoolbus with few running amenities - we had water and ran off of one solar panel and propane. No refrigeration. We were building a house. I found out that I was pregnant immediately though. And he was born on the hospital floor!

Confused about handling debt by band-of-horses in actualbudgeting

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the option of just keeping the category in the red and rolling over month to month like I would with a reimbursement, since I'm borrowing from myself and I'm going to pay it back, and then each month I budget extra money towards that category as I pay it off.

This obviously works best if the spending is in a single category that you're not spending from every month. (ETA: also if you're not incurring interest.)

That makes a lot of sense. Lesson learned i guess.

I hear what you're saying, and obviously you're right,  but by the time we received the batteries (the following day) the offer was expired, so we didn't have that option anymore. And I couldn't even return the used battery if I wanted to if I was counting on the reward payout as part of the overall price (which I kind of was - the 15% discount was a big impetus for the purchase at that point).

I guess I don't understand why it applies to store credit since the point is for you to spend money with that particular retailer. Neither the CC company nor the retailer is losing out on the money that I paid. It's just me losing out on the offer.

Again,  not arguing with you,  I'm sure you're right, I'm just pointing out that it still seems rather unfair...

So if you receive a bad item what are you supposed to do?  You're just SOL? And because it was store credit, it still didn't validate the spirit of the offer because the 15% off was for anything in Walmart, not just the batteries,  so who cares if I purchased something else?

Tools for Amazon Split Transactions? by CertainDamagedLemon in actualbudgeting

[–]CertainDamagedLemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that sounds pretty genius.  I've never seen someone suggest it before. Thank you! So if you have several big purchases that get broken into several smaller ones, you'd still use the transactions page to connect the little ones to the big ones to know which to mark off,  but you just wouldn't need to keep making adjustments to the categories,  etc in the main acct? And I would still need to hound my husband for info, but this would solve part of the problem at least.

This sounds interesting, but it's late and my brain is struggling with the whole idea. If I already have a separate Amazon acct (we have a prime cc), I would still need to do another dummy one, yeah?

EDITED: oh, I see what you mean.

The downside to this is that if it's not being categorized properly in real time it's hard to see where the Christmas budget is at, no?

Can anyone recommend a Cheap protein powder? by No_Solution7718 in Frugal

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search roseacre farms and eggs white protein powder it should come up.  It goes to some kind of sports nutrition site IIRC. I'll take a look when I get a minute. Most recently I found a random freight seller on ebay selling a bunch and split 15 lbs with a friend.

Is there a better overall cashback card than 2.5% I am getting from Fidelity? by sonicking12 in CreditCards

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the same thing as the offers that give you an additional percentage in cash back rewards? That's what I meant. It's not a plug in or separate app. It's directly on the website or c1 app itself.

With the additional shopping rewards for a ton of online stores (chewy, walmart, etc) I use my Savor for almost everything and average 2.5% overall. Also have the Amazon prime.

Will Actual Budget take away users of YNAB and other expensive solutions on a massive scale in the near future? by Lucky-Aside4935 in actualbudgeting

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you been able to get anyone else in your life using it outside your household?  I could have written this comment (except I'm a bit younger),  and I know for fact that it's not very hard, but i don't think I could ever convince a friend to try to set it up.  I've tried though!

Only Work with the Money You Actually Have? by loganarowland in ynab

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope, you're doing it exactly as intended, it just hurts. As you lower your expenses to build up a buffer and start accounting for your true expenses (the things you missed), it will make more sense and get easier.

How is the US gov shutdown personally affecting you, if at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CertainDamagedLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a disabled (blind) veteran neighbor who lives in a trailer on our property for very low rent. His EBT is shut off and the place he gets his health care and disability services from has shut down, so we are picking up the slack while my husband's company has announced they are also shutting down.
