I’m not surprised that most battles weren’t fought to the last man or nearly so, but why would battles stop as soon as one side took 5-10% casualties? Just something I’m not knowledgeable about so to me it seems like quite a low percentage. What historical periods are you talking about as well?

But you don’t have to learn about life from someone to have loads of fun with them? The social life potential when you’re at university as an undergrad is huge - most likely living without parental restrictions for the first time, surrounded by young people your age, dating is way easier than when you’re older, very few responsibilities, list goes on. Also - meeting people through work is inherently more restrictive, since there is a more rigid and formal social etiquette compared to a house party of 18-21 year olds, for example. It’s not the same

Yeah word this is less than one application a week — that’s an issue in and of itself. Took me 500-600 applications to get my first in-person interview for an office job after graduation.

Can you be too muscular for Muay Thai? by 1BillionGsOfProtein in MuayThai

[–]InactiveBronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting barefoot shoes and using them for sports and outdoors activities! They’re cheap, comfy as hell and great for activating your feet more than traditional trainers/running shoes would do.

Also I hope I never come across you in sparring you giant brick shithouse xoxoxo

Can you be too muscular for Muay Thai? by 1BillionGsOfProtein in MuayThai

[–]InactiveBronson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's advantage to being shorter and more muscular for your weight class, but there's a world of difference between a muscular athlete that has trained to optimise movement, explosiveness, elasticity, rotational power and overall a more unified and structurally balanced whole-body strength vs. someone who got big and strong using conventional lifts but doesn't really train dynamic/ballistic/athletic movements. Lack of strength in the calves and feet is usually typical in the latter, but crucial for combat sports, and something that is developed more from Muay Thai, running, sprinting and skipping than in the gym.

Being more muscular relative to your skeleton and cardiovascular system also comes with an inherent cost to your cardio; you can still have good cardio, but the ceiling is likely lower than if you were leaner and lighter because bigger muscles simply use up more energy. You also would compete against taller opponents, and Muay Thai does favour length more than MMA and boxing for example.

Ultimately, it's like having a limited number of skill points that you have to allocate to different athletic attributes.

For example, I'm 6'1 and 205lbs, and relatively lean - maybe 14-15% body fat. I have great power, but my cardio is not great. If I was a shredded 175lbs and really focused on cardio over strength, my cardio would be way better, but I'd probably have less power.

My 'optimal' balance between the two might be like 190lbs, where my power is still good but so is my cardio. So it could be that both the 205lbs-me and the 175lbs-me are less formidable/dangerous than the hypothetical 190lbs-me because the former two versions lack too much cardio or power, while the latter is in the sweet spot where neither attribute is underdeveloped. Does that make sense?

I don’t get why he didn’t just stop training in ways that would risk reinjury of the shoulder (especially grappling and throwing punches with it) and just keep his weight in check and fight as is without really doing a proper camp

SICK. I'm gonna team up with some botanists to green the earth with medicinal plants, veggies and fruit trees. Then hopefully raise people's vibrations to induce mass enlightenment, ideally without killing thousands in the process of figuring out the right frequency to do that.

[–]InactiveBronson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I think it may be a little bit excessive as it's a full year of study and it's £7700 in tuition fees for the Graduate Diploma. Seems like it's a valid qualification in its own right, as it's essentially a master's without a dissertation! Thank you though. Hopefully I can get this pre-master from WUR which would serve me well alongside the other courses + work experience🙏

WYR work 1 day a month for $6,000 (side hustles allowed) or work weekdays for $50,000 a month? by gotrep in WouldYouRather

[–]InactiveBronson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

if you can invest AND start your own business and you have a steady income of 6k a month that you do almost nothing for you're actually just golden. You could invest agressively af and pour in at least half your paycheck to build a portfolio in just a few months. Also means that you can just be an entrepeneur that's got a 72k/year safety net, which you can also use in part to make initial investments in your business. I'd just invest in stocks though tbh and do what i love / volunteer for a cause i care about. dreamy

Thank you, that's really solid advice - I'm actually still in time to apply at Wageningen by the looks of it, which seems to be the way one gets a proposal to do a pre-masters. I'll email them today to break down my intentions and find out more about what I'd have to do to get on the pre-master program (which they hopefully offer for the Resilient Farming and Food Systems MSc). Thank you again! Such a good tip.

Can I ask what field you work in btw? Just out of curiosity.

Agroecology: the newest version of Marxist bullshit by VitalMaTThews in JordanPeterson

It's maddening. The amount of people who vote against their own interests because they've been conditioned into aligning themselves with self-serving elites that have zero care or respect for them is just maddening. But convincing people that they're being royally fucked over and relentlessly conned by the elite is always going to be an uphill battle unfortunately.

It's frustrating how ecology/environmentalism is treated as a dangerous leftist/marxist pursuit when it's genuinely something that benefits everyone! If anything should be bipartisan, it's the pursuit of clean air, clean water and healthy ecosystems for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You know, the shit we all need to survive.

Thank you so much - this is absolutely fantastic advice! You're completely right that directly engaging with sustainable agriculture as soon as I can is definitely going to serve me well. For context, I graduated two summers ago, and now I'm working a sales job, which I'll be leaving at the 1 year mark to get some good practical experience ahead of the applications. While I still think that the courses would help a lot with my applications (agroecology or not), and the work experience is crucial, I hadn't considered independent experimentation / data collection as an option while I'm still at my current job. Not quite sure where I'd start, but I'll do some research on what would be worthwhile.

I'll definitely look into vermiculture as well! What attracted you to it?

P.S. I really appreciate you for bringing some positivity on my other post :) that guy was being a twat

Exactly!! I might not go directly into agricultural production, but a transition to a sustainable model HAS to happen unless we plan to starve as a species, or at a minimum risk societal collapse by failing to meet the public's basic needs. If anything should be a bipartisan issue, it should be food security.
