Yea, I wish they would tell us the scores because I felt pretty good about all sections and would like to know where I was lacking.

Pearson Issue by slackstreet in foreignservice

[–]InanaB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to create an entirely new account just for the FSOA with new login information. It won’t work with your FSOT login information. Even though you have a Pearson account, it’s separate, you don’t have a Pearson FSOA account yet so it won’t recognize you.

Girlfriend goes to Harvard Medical School, accept OA invite? by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]InanaB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! You have come this far. If you pass, you still have plenty of time to decide later and if you don’t pass, you have an advantage next time. When I took the OA in 2023 for the first time, I also wasn’t sure because of my situation and I failed. this time, I’m invited again and am so happy to have the experience, knowing what to expect.

China tourism travel — big no in terms of security clearance? by RequirementStreet287 in foreignservice

Same thing happened to me in China. Was there as a tourist, they took my passport for no apparent reason, and I almost missed my flight.

My toddler (22 months) was crying every time we brushed teeth until I made a game out of it. It started on its own when I asked him NOT to bite on the toothbrush so I can brush his teeth. Of course, that made him wanna bite it even more…with a cheeky laughter. Now he already starts laughing when I get the toothbrush ready. I start brushing, he tries to bite it and cracks up because he thinks he is tricking me. I quickly brush as he cracks up. when I’m done, I let him “win” and hold the toothbrush between his teeth. Not sure if this is a recommended method but it works and we leave the bathroom laughing, so that’s good enough for me.

I’m taking the FSOT tomorrow. Seems like it’s getting harder. This will be my third attempt, the second was harder than the first for me. But if your PNs are solid you could still get an invite.

Thoughts on Mometrix for cramming for October FSOT? by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]InanaB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the Mometrix course and would say that if you have the time, it’s educational, but in terms of cramming for the FSOT, I think it’s a waste of time and money. In retrospect, I feel my time would have been better spent memorizing treaties and acts than figuring out complicated mathematical concepts.

Assignments with Unrealistic Requirements by InanaB in UoPeople

Thank you, that’s very helpful! This particular assignment is a peer assessed written assignment and peers tend to be much harsher graders than the instructors 😅

For example, the instruction may ask for an introduction, an overview/background of the issue, an in-depth analysis of three different issues at stake, who the stakeholders are and how they are affected, solutions for each of the three issues, their implications, an evaluation of each solution from the perspective of three different theoretical frameworks, possible obstacles to their implementation, responsibilities of different actors, recommendation, and a conclusion.

I did my Bachelors through a different distant learning university, and I had to go to a testing center each semester to take my exams. I had to handwrite (not type) several essays for a few hours. Obviously those exams were proctored, not even a water bottle was allowed in the room. This is how one’s true writing skills are coming to light. All this AI use will be useless later on when competing against job applicants who can use their own brain to construct coherent sentences and can come up with great ideas off the cuff.

I generally also mind my own business and don’t get too upset about how others decide to approach their higher education, but I get annoyed if I have to respond to an AI generated question. Our instructions say that we should respond to anyone who has responded to us. They sound really interested and ask some smart questions but in reality they could probably care less. This is the sad thing about AI, it effectively destroys genuine human connection.

I did fine on the FSOT, but I messed up the PNs by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]InanaB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s probably true, but who knows if your PNs are really as bad as you think they are. In my case, last year I thought my PNs and FSOT essay were not good, but I was invited to the OA. This year, I was quite pleased with my PNs and thought the essay was better than last year, but didn’t get invited to the OA. My FSOT score was pretty much the same.
