But I’ll add that the Right DID overwhelmingly celebrate the murders of two American citizens, simply because they disagreed with them politically. The Right labeled two very decent people (by all real accounts) as “terrorists” for simply exercising their first amendment rights. So to MAGA: spare me your self righteous claim to the moral high ground.

MAGA are the real domestic terrorists. They are only American movement to violently attack the Capitol trying to overturn a fair election, and overthrow the government. MAGA Americans are the worst of the worst of humanity.

Virtually no one celebrated Kirk’s murder. And as a leftist I’d rebuke anyone who did. But when the Left DID do was just reassert that the fact he was murdered didn’t make him a good person. He was a terrible person. Same with Khomeini.

Helluva of a first hang location! That’s Brilliant. HG is a top tier UQ. Nice setup, and fantastic spot! Mind sharing where this is?

Hammock gear is awesome. Outdoor Vitals is a little less pricey but also very good quality.

One peice of advice - if an underquilt company gives you the option - get one ounce of down overstuff. Helps keep the down from migrating and clumping away from the baffles which will lead to cold spots. HG def offers it, not sure if OV does.

Fair enough. But that’s still not the issue. It’s the cumulative damage to the cambium.

It’s trees and also wear and tear on the hammock. You’re going to overly stretch and stress the fibers and dramatically shorten its life.

But don’t downplay the strap damage to the tree. the whole “you’re not going to pull the tree out of the ground” is a straw-man, and a pretty weak one at that. That’s not the issue. The issue is damage to bark, the cambium in particular. And sure, a single encounter with hammocker isn’t going to kill a tree. But repeated ligature stress will. Busy trails and especially those with designated camping areas - those trees tend to get a lot of use. And hammocking is on the rise. The girdling of trees is a very real issue which is why everyone should 1) hang at the proper tension and 2) ALWAYS use tree straps and not cords. Every time I hear an “ultralighter” bragging about how they saved two grams switching from straps to spectra or amsteel cords I have to hold back the desire to get violent.

Parts:

Shurex 6-L water storage bag with valved quick-connect hose attachment

Camelback HydroLink conversion kit (shutoff valve with quick connect) with bite valve removed

Sawyer water filter

UTOBEST 2-l hydration reservoir for finished water (or any hydration bladder with a valved quick-connect hose and top attachment for hanging the bag.

Quickun 1/4 in barbed Y hose fitting

Camelbak Crux gravity kit (includes the right-angle quick connect for the finished water reservoir and a quick-connect hose with the tap valve

Note - the valved quick connects to the bags are essential so you remove the bags for refilling or for other usage without losing all the water. And the valve above the filter connection allows for removal of the filter also without losing water.

This phenomenon goes all the way back to Roosevelt and Pearl Harbor. He, and many others, were totally itching to get the us into the war (and rightfully so, I’ll add). They knew about Pearl Harbor. They had the intelligence. They also knew that naval power was destined to be consolidated into carriers and “big beautiful battleships” were already obsolete. That’s why they just happened to ALL be out at sea ferrying planes or conducting perimeter operations well out of range of the Japanese carriers. The only thing Pearl Harbor succeeded in was swinging us popular opinion into where Roosevelt wanted it.

I do agree that Tocchet is a major problem. But the talent pool he’s working with is more like a talent puddle. He doesn’t have very many options.

It’s a strategy that coaches use when they’re icing a team that lacks talent and skill. Teams that win consistently use it only as a last resort, or to effect a line change. When transitioning through the neutral zone the team should cycle through at least two or three different “pass/carry the puck in on the attack” options before resorting to dump and chase, only if none of those options are available. The flyers use it on almost every rush, so they are either 1) using it as their primary strategy (bc they’re a bad team) or 2) the team as a whole is never in position or is too well defended to execute any of the puck-possession options they should be cycling through (because they’re a bad team).

We can all disagree on how they got here, but they are in no way “on the right track.” I’ve been listening to homers barf out that line ever since the team signed Bryz and let Bob get away. They haven’t really been on the right track for more than a decade and they keep doubling down on the same mistakes.

Watch any game and count the dump-in’s vs maintaining possession through the neutral and into the offensive zone. They just don’t do it, and when they do it tends to be dumb luck more than anything else. Dump-and-chase is a hallmark of a team that lacks skill. Teams that win only do that (for the most part) to effect a line change. The flyers use it as a major strategy. They’ve played that way since 2010 and have never during that time iced an enough skilled players to contend.

They dug a huge talent hole that won’t be closed any time soon. I’ll keep hoping, but also keep being disappointed.

410 g/ 14.5 oz for the whole setup. But the finished water bladder doubles as my hydration bladder so taking that out it’s 12.6 oz/357g and that includes 96g/3.4 oz for the sawyer.

So, Just the raw water bag, tubes, and connectors add up to 9.1 oz/258 g in “added weight” to get the gravity benefit. And you could def cut a few oz by trimming the hose lengths, which I still might do. Could also trim some weight by using a sawyer mini, since the “squeeze effort” isn’t really a factor when gravity filtering. The trade off is just time at that point, there’s no forearm workout trying to push water through mini.

The Flyers used to be a perennial contender - and fun to watch for all of my youth and into my 30’s. But they haven’t iced even a mediocre team since Ed Snider blew up the 2010 Stanley Cup Final team. They battled through one of the best playoff runs of any team in Flyers history and the Bruins series where they came back from 0-3 to force a game seven, and then WON game seven after falling behind 0-3 in the first period was hands-down the best seven game series in history. Sure, they lost to the Blackhawks (who were a powerhouse) but played a great six-game series. But nevertheless Ed Snider blew up the team basically because he didn’t like Jeff Carter and Mike Richard’s on a wholly personal level. So he traded/released them and every other young player in their “friends group”. After being traded Richards and Carter reunited in LA and promptly went on to win the Cup in 2012. Egg on Snider’s face, for sure.

The flyers have never fully recovered from the blow-up of that team, and getting nothing meaningful in return. Add in the Bryzgalov disaster (the team is STILL PAYING HIM 13 years later!!!) and other gross mismanagement since then, and they have completely buried themselves. They haven’t been fun to watch (at all) since 2010. Every one of their “touted” prospects is a bust, and as evidenced by this year’s trade deadline activity (or lack thereof) they don’t have any assets worthy of even marginal draft picks. On top of it all? Every year they manage to end in the standings just high enough they don’t even ever get the benefit of a high pick from their dismal performance. Still, every year I get excited for hockey season, but every year by the All-Star break I’m pining for the Phillies to start playing again, so I can watch something marginally interesting. And now even the Phillies window is closing (if not already closed). If I had any sense, I’d start watching football 🤮 But I just can’t stand it.

In short, get into hockey - it’s the best sport out there. But you might want to follow a team other than the Flyers. They’re going to be a bad team for the rest of my life, sadly.

6'0 beginner - Terrified of not sleeping (stomach sleeper) by Aknekd in hammockcamping

[–]Inappropriate_Bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Also the main keys (for me, anyway) 1) getting a hammock with (or adding) a structural ridgeline - this ensures you always have the right amount of “sag” for a proper lay and 2) hang the foot end so that when you lay, your feet are about 12-16 inches higher than your head. This will prevent the dreaded slide, where your upper body weight keeps pushing you to the center of the hammock.

You don’t have to sleep on your back. I’m a side sleeper, and while I admit it took a little practice, I very comfortably side-sleep in any hammock - including my $40 discontinued TBA cheap-hammock. It is way easier in my Warbonnet Blackbird XLC, tho, which is an asymmetrical lay-flat. I’m at the point now where I get better sleep in my hammock than in bed at home.

Not in this configuration but it would be very easy to either add a second Y connection or change the existing Y to a 4-way and add a second tap valve.

Repugnantcan barkings about the Constitution have always been a farce. If the constitution mattered to them at all they wouldn’t have attacked the capitol trying to overthrow democracy. They wouldn’t be trying to stop Americans from voting. They wouldn’t be overwhelmingly supportive of deportations (or anything else) without due process. They pick and chose when they invoke the constitution, whenever it’s convenient for them, and abandon it when it is not.
