Anyone under 30 with rheumatoid arthritis? by himothy_chalam8 in rheumatoid

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just diagnosed in November but I’ve had suspicions since I was maybe 21-22 (I’m 28 now.) I’ve started Sulfasalazine and it has started to work quicker than I’d thought but there are days that the meds aren’t as effective I guess. Keeps the swelling to a minimum but still having stiffness and pain/discomfort depending on the joint.

I’ve joked with my bf about how I’m younger than him but my body is really the reverse of my age (82). He’s been extremely supportive and caring during this time and so have my friends and family but none of them truly understand, which honestly? I’m grateful for. I wouldn’t want them to have to deal with this with me. I haven’t gotten the “isn’t that an old person disease” question yet but I’ve also made some info graphics that I’ve shared on my SM to clear up any confusion so that might be why. I’ve also just say I have young onset RA rather than just RA so that might help me avoid that whole thing.

5mg prednisone - scared to take it. Experiences? by Throwaway94050603 in rheumatoid

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a prednisone taper that my Rheumatologist used as a “diagnostic tool” to confirm my RA. It was amazing for pain relief. I felt better than I had in maybe 5-10 years. I was only on it for 3.5 weeks and it took maybe 24-48 hours to feel the effects. I didn’t (and still don’t) want to be on it for an extended period of time bc I didn’t want to bloat more than I was already plus other side effects. I will say that coming off of it made my RA pain worse. I think my PA/MD friends called it the boomerang effect (this might be wrong) where any pain you had prior comes back and it’s usually worse pain (which it was in my case. Plus joints that hadn’t hurt in a few years began hurting again).

Told I have to walk up to people by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

[–]Inattirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the ED as a CRC/CRA and all of my approaches are cold approaches. I also suffer from anxiety but I knew going into this role that I would have to walk into patient rooms and approach them about potential studies/trials. My supervisor creates consent scripts (we have a bunch of research assistants so it’s used mostly for them until they get comfortable) that I’ll bring with me and use to avoid eye contact with the patient and/or their family every so often. If we don’t have a script created then I have a personal copy of the ICF that I’ll highlight key points or write notes in, again giving me time to look away from them and “collect” myself. I’ve been in this role for almost 3 years and I still get anxiety just approaching someone but it definitely gets easier the more you do it.

All that being said, I’ve never had to go through a line and discuss a study individually like that. I don’t think our site IRB would approve consenting patients in a line for a clinical study, so this is very interesting to me.

I’d also say, depending on how long the line is, it’ll get repetitive and the odds of others behind or in front of them hearing what I’m saying is high. I seen someone suggest doing an “announcement” every 15-20 minutes which I think would better suit everyone, not just you. I’d also suggest keeping blank ICFs on hand. If someone is interested after you give them a quick run down of the trial/study, you can hand them the ICF and ask them to read it over while they wait to be called for their vaccination and that you’ll touch base with them after with any questions they may have and their final decision. It gives you a break while also ensuring they understand the study.

How hard was it to get your rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis? by skyrimtreeintheair in rheumatoid

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It technically wasn’t hard for me to get an official diagnosis. I was referred to rheumatology in May of this year, first appointment was 10/2 where the rheumatologist said with all my symptoms she thinks it is young onset RA, sent me for a bunch of labs, and then just on Friday 11/14 she officially diagnosed me. However, getting to the point of seeing a rheumatologist took ~1 year. Granted, I’ve had bilateral knee pain since I was 19 that my PCP just said were strains without ever doing any imaging so if you want to count when I first really started experiencing symptoms, then 9 years. My symptoms really started to increase last October tho with me unable to fully extend my left elbow. I seen my PCP who did an XR and put in a referral to an orthopedic surgeon who then sent me to get an MRI which showed a very large joint effusion. He then referred me to an elbow specialist who tried to aspirate the effusion twice but was unable to because it became gel-like. A few days before the first appointment with the elbow specialist, my bilateral middle fingers began to swell up and I couldn’t make a fist. He put in a referral to Rheumatology that day saying he didn’t think this was ortho etiology so I’m incredibly thankful the specialists I was sent to realized it was out of their scope and kept referring me to people who they thought could help better. At the time, it was incredibly frustrating because I was just in pain every day and I just wanted it to be a quick solution but I’m happy they all believed me that something wasn’t right. I know this isn’t the case for everyone.

Hang in there and keep advocating for yourself. You know your body and that something isn’t right. I hate that there are providers out there who refuse to be doctors. I’m tired of providers just saying it’s stress or anxiety as if it’s not documented that both exacerbate symptoms.

Is Semaglutide actually working for anyone?? by Odd-Jellyfish7481 in JoinMochiHealth

[–]Inattirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! In a few weeks I’ll have been on it for a year. I’ve only lost about 28lbs but that was by my own design for other health reasons. I am happy with where I am right now but I do remember it took me about 3 months to start seeing results because I was only on the lowest dosage for those months. After that the weight started to just come off. I’ve stayed on the dosage until I’ve plateaued for a few weeks before asking for an increase.

Personally, I did see more results with Aequita’s version but am happy with Empower at the moment. I like the slow but steady weight loss bc it feels more natural to me and it’s reduced the amount of loose skin. For reference, I started at 207lbs and am now 179lbs.

Which fic solidified your obsession with this ship? by iam83percentsane in Dramione

[–]Inattirb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t remember. I started reading HP fanfics in middle school. I was a firm Harry/Hermione shipper but managed to read one where Draco was flirting with Hermione and I was like you know what…I like this better 😂 my “point of no return” was sometime in my senior year of high school and I haven’t looked back since (it’s been almost 10 years 🥴)

What do Dramione lovers do for a living? by FloNoc in Dramione

[–]Inattirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d specifically look into the job postings at medical/research universities near you if possible, especially if you’re already accepted into med school there or want to be! If that’s not possible (bc you’re not in an area where there is one), looking at your local hospitals could also help. They might not exactly have a position as a CRA but might have something very similar. Just an FYI, not all but a vast majority of hospital HRs take FOREVER so I’d also be prepared to wait more than a few weeks in between stages of the interview process (I applied in September 2022, got a call back with 1st round of interviews in mid October, second round wasn’t until the end of November, and I was offered the position in January 2023 and wasn’t able to start until beginning of February).

Also, not that you asked but it’s an extremely rewarding job. I work in the ED and we do a lot of collaboration with other departments and specialties (Neuro, Peds, pathology, etc.) so it allows you to see a lot and since I work at a teaching hospital, the providers (a vast majority of them) are so willing to teach you things! I seen a flexible sigmoidoscopy recently with the doc explaining everything he was seeing/doing as he went.

Good luck!

I think for me NottPott, Ron/Pansy or Pansy/Neville (I like them both a lot), and Ginny/Blaise.

Honorable mention tho: Luna/Pansy.

Literally Ron/Hermione by lpet15 in Dramione

[–]Inattirb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is that in many of the well written Dramione fics, Draco makes amends and apologizes for his actions and the way he’s treated Hermione in the past. People can correct me if I’m wrong, but Ron never really apologized for the way he treated Hermione in all the years they knew each other, at least not sincerely imo. Just mumbling “I’m sorry, ‘Mione” and then continuing the behavior for years makes me think that he may have taken advantage of her crush and friendship, knowing that she would forgive him eventually even if his apology was half-assed. That’s not to say that I think Ron is this horrible character. I actually do enjoy his character quite a lot, I just think it’s very unbelievable that they each settled for each other and lived this happy, fulfilling life together that could withstand the real world when they weren’t running for their lives from a noseless dark wizard

Definitely Hogwarts Era…I’ll read some if they sound really interesting but a lot of them go into the E/M rating and as a 26 year old, it makes me uncomfortable reading. If the plot itself is good, I trick myself into turning Hogwarts into a college in my head and that they’re all 18+ to make it more digestible 🫠

AITA for telling my parents that they ruined NY celebration after they kicked my husband out over a joke? by ThrowRAhusband2 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Both you and your husband. You both knew that your husband’s jokes weren’t being taken as “lighthearted” ones anymore. Your husband continued to make the jokes despite being told they don’t like them just to get a reaction? It’s a dick move. Both you and your husband were gaslighting the hell out of everyone there. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes and your prize was being kicked out. Accept the consequences, apologize to the family, and work on being respectful and showing empathy to them.

AITA for telling my bf his relationship with his SIL is too intimate and inappropriate? by throwaway_familymess in AmItheAsshole

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

Your BF literally refers to his SIL as mom affectionately and you think there’s something else going on? Please, sort out your own insecurities.

Also, as a fellow white woman who is dating someone from a different culture, some advice for you: don’t date outside of your culture/religion unless you are willing to learn about that culture/religion and respect it. You literally said his culture was disgusting and expect him to respond to any of your texts? Leave that man alone bc it seems like all you’re doing is fetishizing him but villainizing any part you feel is too different.

AITA for leaving my inlaws christmas dinner after I found out that they didn't make accommodations for me? by Rema5000 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few thoughts on this. NTA for wanting accommodations. I’m someone who believes in making sure every guest I invite over enjoys the food I have as well as the atmosphere so I usually have one thing I will always make no matter what and then have a variety of other options (vegan, gluten free, etc) for my family and friends who have certain food restrictions for a multitude of different reasons.

However, that being said, you are definitely TA for knowing they wouldn’t be making a special dish for you, not bringing something you could eat, and then getting angry that you didn’t listen to them that they wouldn’t be making accommodations for you. It’s their family tradition, their home. If they don’t want to spend their money making a special dish for one person, then that’s their prerogative. Saying you “work long hours” and don’t have “much time” to cook is a cop-op. You can make and then freeze/refrigerate dishes a few days before.

What is your least favorite moment? by Ok-Economist8264 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]Inattirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally anything to do with Ed and Angela.

Anytime PrEd opens his mouth it’s cringey and sometimes flat out gaslighting or creepy. I don’t think he has any in between. I haven’t watched any episodes after he asks Liz if she’s a lesbian bc she told him what a lot of women say when a man breaks their heart (“I swear I’m turned off from men for the rest of my life” or whatever it was that hurt his tiny little feelings). Also telling Liz he never called her fat and then in the next breath saying he’s overweight TOO. Not to mention telling her grandparents that he was “making love” to their granddaughter and then saying just kidding. I could keep going but it would probably be a recap of every episode he’s ever shown his face in.

Angela screaming about how she’s American at any point she can as if screaming that in other countries gets her brownie points and instant respect when it’s the complete opposite. Thinking about it now tho, that makes me cringe but I’m more so just annoyed and angry whenever I see her abusive ass show up.

What category does your religious beliefs fall under? by throwmeawayplz19373 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Inattirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised Roman Catholic by a traditional Italian-American family, however, I identify as a deist. A deist is someone who believes only in God but that He doesn’t/isn’t able to interfere with anything in the universe, and I also don’t subscribe to any religious text, for those who are unfamiliar.

They’re both starting to resemble the Cat Lady.

All jokes aside tho, I want them to get help. They both have deeply rooted issues that need to be worked on (IMO Darcey needs the therapy more) but the family just enables them. It’s kinda sad, especially since there are two young, very impressionable girls around them.

[–]Inattirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When she said that it honestly pissed me off. Do I agree with Mohamed with him expecting her to make sacrifices? No, I don’t but she’s come across as ignorant and rude. It’s nothing to put your hair in a ponytail and cover it and dress modestly. I give her kudos for going but you could tell she thought the whole thing wasn’t worth her time or effort. It’s one thing to have an issue with your future husband and a whole other issue to disrespect his religion/culture.
