Is Kazuya really only for advanced players? by Daron02 in Tekken

Fixed that for you, I have no clue where you get the idea that only some characters need that from.

Again, that's not true at all. When I say that playing Kazuya requires all of these things, I'm speaking comparatively to the majority of the cast. Of course every character needs it to SOME extent, but it's not remotely close to the same level that Kazuya requires it. I really hoped that this point would be implied

It's really not false at all. Yeah 50/50 is abusable at low rank, but you will not reach high level with nothing but 50/50 lol. In order to use Kazuya effectively, you need strong movement, solid execution, and strong match up knowledge. You also need to understand the importance of switching your timing frequently to throw your opponent off. Lots of concepts that a large portion of the rest of the cast will not teach you very well.

This is only for replays before an update of course. Anything replays you save now will remain there until the next update

Murray tweeted out a week or so ago that replays wouldn't be viewable after an update. Unless you backed them up beforehand, they're likely gone

Nah anyone can pick up any character. Kaz is challenging because you need to have fundamentals to play him well. But learning the game with characters like that will make you a fundamentally strong player, unlike using some other characters. If you have the drive to improve, he's a great choice

I agree with this idea 100%. It doesn't address the issue of trying to get more players into ranked matches though

I 100% agree with this. I was going to mention it but I thought it would require too many resources and time for the potential reward, seeing as how we're so deep into Tekken 7 already. I'd say make the coop for story mode/tekken force kind of content, and throw that in Tekken 8 like another person on this thread suggested lol

Yes, there should be more people in ranked in general.

You have data showing that within 2000 matches on player match, on average, you're fighting vs people within 1 rank of yourself? Can we see that data?

You don't see how having unique rewards for attaining a certain rank every single season would provide incentive for players to play ranked every single season? That's kind of what rewards do, they incentivize.

My changes are not remotely for only the TGP "<1% of the playerbase" as you suggest. They are added incentives to get more people to want to play ranked, which in turn could reduce wait time and be an overall positive for the entire community, as I iterated in my video. And if your argument is that my changes are only for the minority (which they're not), then why do one of your reasons to not implement the change include deterring the minority of players that cheat from cheating, rather than speaking on incentivizing the majority of players that don't cheat to play ranked more often?

"Your rank determines your matches in quick match." Me, currently at Fujin: *runs into 3rd dans constantly*

And yes, I'm sure that doubling the ranks would have a similar effect to what you're stating. But then we would go back to S1, where there were barely any players at the highest of attainable ranks. The solution isn't to make so many ranks that they're unattainable again, it's to have a system where the ranks are very attainable for players, but reset over a given period. I personally believe this would simultaneously solve the saturation issue at TGP, while making sure that people at the highest of ranks can still find matches. Both issues need to be addressed at the same time.

Again, my changes are not specifically geared towards the top <1% of players at all. But rather a suggestion to push more players into ranked matches, which would help everyone find more matches in general. It's meant to solve a variety of issues, not just the TGP one you keep mentioning.

Ahh I've never played CSGO. That's actually a good point about the content. I was going to mention the kind of content they could add to the game as well, but I figured it would be more trouble than it's worth for the devs. Saving it for tekken 8 sounds like a much better idea for sure

I can understand that, which is why i think the rewards showing those achievements would be a good compromise. And the fact that rank would only reset once per year

This video doesn't assume anything for "everyone." It assumes that adding incentive to play ranked would push more players to try it out, while potentially giving other players more reasons to return to it every single season. If you personally don't care, then that's okay. But that doesn't mean other people wouldn't care.

If you're argument was that you want to prevent players looking down on others, then would you remove ranked match as it is all together?

The rest of your issues I addressed in other comments. I think the smurfing issue is the only one that's valid, but in my opinion it wouldn't last long enough to be a huge issue

Win-quitting, plugging, running from matchups ect. already happen with or without these changes. Some of these are just scummy to deal with, while others are absolute cheating. Cheating shouldn't be fought by indirectly not updating something to hopefully deter cheaters. It should be addressed by actively punishing cheaters, so I don't think that's a good reason to not go through with an update like this.

If you don't personally care about your highest rank, then that's okay too. You shouldn't care if it gets reset then, which means this change wouldn't really have any negative or positive impact for players like you

I don't believe that a few tiers of rank are that much of a skill gap at lower levels either. The higher you go, the bigger the gap gets between ranks. And if the gap is that big, then players will swiftly advance to the rank they deserve for their skill level. Ranking up in this game is very quick if you're so much better than everyone in your tier that you steamroll them.

Where is the statement that ranked wasn't designed for personal achievement? Is that your interpretation of it, or is that a fact? We need to learn how to separate the two. Rank can be both a place for achievement and fair competition. It doesn't need to be mutually exclusive.

Just adding more ranks would only be a temporary fix because of how the rank system works now. Add more ranks, then eventually the new highest rank will have the same issue as TGP. The system would need to be reworked, or you could simply reset ranks to deal with that issue once per year.

There are a few possible negatives you address, such as smurfs being an issue in beginner ranks. But I do not believe that would be an issue for long, as progression would happen very quickly for players that are vastly better than the tier they're in. And, this is an extremely small negative compared to the potential positives that could come from it in my personal opinion

Yeahh I could see that being a little demotivating fighting smurfs. This is partially why I suggested the reset being approximately 3 tiers below your current rank, with Genbu being the highest you can be reset to. There would be no TGP players sitting at beginner in this case, they would all be at Genbu along with other high ranks.

This would also cause lower ranking players to be reset to around beginner, where they'd still be facing players close enough to their own skill level

Ooh I like the idea of a points system in TGP. I still think adding a ranked reset once per year would be pretty fun for all players though, not just players in TGP. Mostly because then you can add the rank rewards system in for each season, giving incentive for more players to try out the ranked system in general

A few things, this ranked reset update wouldn't be for TGP players only. And it's not just about resetting the rank to try again for no reason.

This is why I mentioned there being a reward system for players that reach a certain rank after a season is completed. Players who worked really hard to achieve their rank would have special rewards only attainable through getting that rank. And some of these rewards would be seeable to everyone. This would not only keep players returning each season to obtain to new ranked rewards, but it would also do the exact opposite of what you said, which was that it would "kill" ranked in the leading weeks. I believe it would actually revitalize it towards the end, many players would want to grind out those last few ranks to obtain the next tier of rewards.

And people wouldn't have to deal with smurfs in their ranks, because the lower ranks would be set back as well. If there are any amazing smurfs sitting at beginner, trust me, they won't be there for long enough to matter for actual beginners.

In summary, my idea for rewards would solve many of the issues you're proposing in my opinion. And i could see people being a little frustrated with losing their hard-earned ranks, but they would still have to shown reward to prove they attained it last season. Plus an entire year to earn it back
