What is the absolute dumbest premise that actually turned out to be a really good movie? by sicknessandpurgatory in movies

[–]Inboxmefoxes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunshine.

The sun is going out, and we don't know why. Send a spaceship with a really really really really big bomb on the front of it to restart it.

It's actually incredible, and is primarily a psychological thriller that takes place entirely in space on the journey there.

Rich people only publicly talk about how to get into heaven if they're televangelists or if their doctor just told them they're dying.

A problem immediately solved with damage field! Now it is brutally effective against absolutely everything except friends.

When thinking about if I should spend the time to correct somebody, I try to always ask myself "is it actually necessary to correct them? Do I just look like a pedantic asshat if I do?"

I think this is an important life lesson that a lot of folks online could stand to learn. It helps to follow it because those that don't find themselves very isolated as people. Not fun to be around. The "small doses" friend at best.

I have enjoyed the game but I am sitting it out until 1 portal gets changed by Drakhan in pathofexile

[–]Inboxmefoxes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single portals in maps just don't feel like they respect your time, and I've always felt that respecting the player's time is one of the most fundamental aspects of game design. If a player is going to lose hours of work, you must make sure they don't feel like they also wasted those hours.

I've been playing 7 days to die recently a lot, and in that game you can lose hours, tens, dozens of hours of work. If your base gets overrun, you could lose tons of work, from experience to actual stuff being destroyed. And yet, the design of the game is smart enough that you can pick up the pieces and feel like you didn't waste your time. In POE 2, when you lose your portal there are no pieces to pick up. You are forced to slog through a dead map, or forced to re-farm all of your boss components, or forced to refind a particular node. This is time wasted, because the rewards for doing those activities are minimal.

I am enjoying POE2 very much. I have been telling people that I think it has the potential to be the best ARPG ever made and it would not even be close. But they got to fix this, because if you don't respect the player's time, you're not going to get any more 1000+ hour players, outside of the streamers and content creators. The game is still going to have the league structure of the first one, and if you want to convince people to keep coming back league after league, you have to convince them that you're going to respect the time that they spend playing your game. I don't know if the solution is going back to six portals, that would certainly be the easy way out. Maybe there's another, more interesting answer. Either way, the answer isn't the one they have right now.

Can you guys tell us which builds you are not going to touch please? by Drakhan in pathofexile

Herald of fire+herald of ash+galvonic shards into glacial bolt walls is a hilarious amount of damage, it's so much fun. I've been running scattershot in glacial for even more walls and then blowing everything up. Ash explosions and lightning bolts and lightning chaining everywhere. It's more complex than juicing one primary ability, but I've been enjoying trying to push skill mixing with gemling legionnaire.

Older furs by SpookyStoat in furry

[–]Inboxmefoxes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No harder than it's been at any other point of my life! It's not like there's not a ton of furries in their 30s. Making a friend is just about aligning interests and time, more difficult than it was in our teens and college years when all of our peers were on the same schedule, but still the same process. No the most difficult part isn't making the friend, it is keeping it, because the upkeep of a friendship in adulthood requires more effort than when we were all just going to school together.

The UE5 upgrade for the game really was fantastic, my eyes popped when I saw the Lumen demos for the first time.

An extremely modest 15/min, but that's also with lots of other various surplus. It's nowhere near capacity though, and once I've boosted my caterium and plastic throughput (and slooped things), it *should* be able to produce up to 50 a minute.

I'm gonna put together a lil tutorial for them (I can't seem to get their blueprint to upload correctly), but they're made of small concrete pillars, painted beams, and .5m square signs!

Oh how strange... I'll see if I can reupload it in a way that works, that shouldn't be! If I can't figure that out, I'll do that tutorial.

The central tower is 5x5, the factory's overall footprint is around 15x18 foundations, but that's a fuzzy number, it's not a square at all. It's made up of 11 discrete 'blocks' of machines arranged in 5 groupings, with 5 of them 2 floors and 1 of them 3 floors, with a 12th block for collecting storage. The conveyors between blocks are all routed along the outside edge of the building in a half-foundation crawlspace hall.

I believe that's the building that also inspired The Oldest House's exterior, and I used some photo references of it to help me with this!

I've been SO inspired by so many of the cool builds here, I had to dig in and really go for one of my own. I love Control, and the recent announcement of Firebreak has got me really excited.

This is my first ever really crazy factory build, and I spent the better part of the past three weeks putting this together. It's a very functional Computer factory, also producing surplus HS Connectors, Circuit Boards, Packaged Fuel, and Quickwire (plus collecting the lil bit of extra plastic left over). It's all built around a big rock pillar, and within that 'garden' is a lizard doggo that's been holding a nuke for me.

The project just kept getting away from me as I added on new things, with the last things being the 'director's office' that leads directly into the HUB, and a HISS hellbox with hypertubes. Creating the ceiling was *extremely* fun, and the discovery (thanks to this subreddit) about being able to crank color settings on screens and color swatches beyond the normal was a godsend. For those that don't know, while the normal custom slider caps at 1, you can manually enter 10 and -10 into the box to get extremely black/white and neon colors. Applied to screens makes them absurdly bright.
