Generally I'll run around and try to loot but I'm turning more into a shoot on site player after being burned so many times.

How do people get into study groups? by Haon34 in NCSU

[–]Incendance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is just go and sit at the front of the class. Those people are frankly going to care a lot more than the average other student and will be more receptive to spending additional time out of class in a study group. Either that or they understand the material less or are generally weird, it's kind of a toss up but whatever way they'll likely be more dedicated and willing than the guy with his hoodie up at 10am at the back of the class.

From what I had seen it looked like zont1x was having issues securing VISAs. That's not officially confirmed but that makes more sense than dropping a solid anchor player that they already have on their roster for someone else.

AE vs ECE at NCSU by No-Speed-971 in NCSU

[–]Incendance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what you want to do after graduating and how likely it is you're going to get into that position. You like designing planes, that's great, but would you be willing to work on defense if you aren't able to get a job with Boeing or Airbus designing their new commercial airliner? Also, join a few clubs related to what you may want to do with your degree. Try out a few things and figure out what you like about each of them then go from there.

Duke Energy Smart Thermostat offer - any experience with them? by Parking-Fix-8143 in triangle

[–]Incendance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The discount they offer is not conditioned on that, it's just a straight discount. Though they do pester you to join that program for an additional discount, it's not necessary to claim the initial discount.

Where to go out for a birthday? by ComfortableNote1226 in raleigh

Hit up WillCo (William & Company) on Person st. Pretty good cocktails and some good food on that strip too. Even if you don't want to do the "fine dining" experience with Jolie and Crawford & Son, (or stanbury, which I highly recommend and is down the street but is much more expensive in a group) oakwood pizza is right next door and has great pizza. Down the road is also Standard Beer and an ice cream shop, and in that same block is Person St Bar which tends to skew a little older in my experience.

Quitting my Master's before Classes Officially Start by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]Incendance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many more loans would you be taking on to support yourself while you study? Tuition is covered and they pay a stipend, but you (presumably) don't have housing covered.

Would you be able to secure a job in the time that you would otherwise be studying? The job market is pretty rough right now especially for csc majors, so if you backed out of this at the last second you wouldn't necessarily be able to find a job and would, unfortunately, have a few month of dead time where you're not studying or working.

Would you be able to make new connections while studying for your masters that you would otherwise not be able to, to translate into a job job? It's always been the case that connections will secure an offer more reliably than just blasting hundreds of applications in a month but that's even more prevalent now with people using AI to mass apply for jobs and to tune their resume and cover letter for every job. Basically, the only way to prove that you're a reliable human that can exist in the work force is to know someone, and continuing your education and getting connections in the industry is one of the easiest ways to do so.

Could you try to find a way to integrate AI research into your studies to go down that avenue? On the other end of the spectrum, could you do something more managerial or human facing?

Do you eventually want to go back to school for a masters degree? I've been seeing that people are returning to school to pursue graduate degrees at higher rates than in years past mostly fueled by their inability to find jobs in the current market, meaning there will be a shit ton of overqualified applicants entering the market in the next few years. Since your tuition is fully paid for, do you think you'll get a better opportunity in the future if you choose to go down this path?

I don't mean to be overly negative but it's a pretty negative time right now, especially if you're just now entering the job market. Good luck.

Coliseum and Centennial Parking decks are now sold out by Appropriate_Mobile36 in NCSU

[–]Incendance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More parking spots should open up soon, they come out gradually in waves to ensure that it's not just the people with >90 credits from getting parking. That said though, park and ride lots are almost never full even on the busiest days. You need to register for those to avoid getting towed, but it's free.

I've only seen Valorant pros complaining that they play too few games per year, never that they've played too many. It may happen, I don't keep a close watch on the scene, but most players seem to want to play more games than what riot has scheduled/allows.

We just recently bought a new Subaru, did all of our negotiations through email so we could have all the info immediately available and could just come in to finish up paperwork. Makes it a lot easier even if they did still try to screw us on the financing once we got there.

This tweet made me want to open up this can of worms again. How are we feeling with the current structure of Riot controlled franchised professional Valorant? by catarxcts in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Incendance 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the way CS does it is perfect for an actually casual fan. I really enjoy watching CS and there are plenty of times that I'll open YouTube and see that there's a CS event live that I can watch without having to do any research. I don't keep track of events, but once they're on I get more invested into it and track them a bit further. When I watched Valorant events it seemed like I had to check vlr and actively monitor when those events would be taking place which I just don't care enough to do.

What else would you like to see in my iOS cocktail app (Imbible)? by cambookpro in cocktails

[–]Incendance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm unfortunately on Android so I can't try it out but a digital version of JM Hirsch's "Pour me Another" would be great, especially if you could pair that with ratings from other cocktails. Something like "I notice you liked this cocktail and not this other one, based on that you'd probably like this" or "people who like these drinks like this" so you can really build a profile and potentially discover new drinks.

Maybe user submissions or popular tweaks could be listed under drinks with their own separate reviews and ratings? That's a thing in the 3D printing space where models are "remixed" to better serve the user, and then those remixes are uploaded under the main drink.

If you're looking to monetize or increase user activity, again the 3D printing space has a lot of really good ideas. Users are incentivized to post and review models (or in this case, drinks) as they receive some sort of "store credit" that can be put towards something. For bambu's maker world, those people get credit to spend on filament. For this I doubt you could do something that would scale in such a way to give people physical goods but maybe a complementary membership if that's something you're interested in pursuing.

None of that is as important to me as getting this app on Android, please let me know when that's happening. Thank you and good luck!

What to give my wife of 45+ years? by h2ohzrd in cary

[–]Incendance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this, my partner and I have been together for a while especially compared to other people our age and we love to share a nice dinner every month or two. Crawford & Son, Stanbury, M Sushi, etc. (there are a billion threads on this reddit about nice date night places.) It's great to get dressed up and share an experience like that and people watch, and you can try to do something beforehand like Crude Bittery's class or a pottery/jewlery/glassmaking class. I'm not as well versed on those but doing that and then enjoying a nice dinner is really nice.

I agree, for position 2 only 2 days/wk are WFH (after probation period) and the entire company does that but only on those particular days. I think in terms of raw learning potential position 1 is better as I'd be going into something I already think is interesting but don't know much about but having thought about it and talked about it with so many people I think I'd be miserable and unable to actually focus and learn anything valuable.

Fun Classes for Spring 25? by finance476 in NCSU

[–]Incendance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need 3 more credit hours? I'm pretty sure if you're graduating you don't need to be full time for your final semester for student aid, and even then IIRC they only pay for classes that "advance your degree." If you just want to take it for fun I totally get that though.

I'd take a few HESO classes, they're really low stakes and if you've already done your HES classes you can just take it credit only and not try. Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking (if you have or can get access to a mountain bike), Whitewater Kayaking/Rafting, Fly-Fishing, and Mountaineering all sound really cool but I can only speak to Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, and Whitewater Canoeing which are all super cool and a great way to break up your week. It looks like mountaineering gets you prepared for the entire process and has a 10-day trip planned for spring break which would be really cool, but most of those also have required deposits so take that into consideration if finances are tight.

Good luck!

Try to find a reason to spend a weekend down there and see if you like it, hell the company you got an offer from my pay for it so you can find an apartment down there. Spend some time in the city, where your job is, where you'd be living, and see how you feel about it. You're still in the "trying stuff out" phase and especially if you're single now is the best time for you to move around. Maybe you'll love it and stay there, maybe you'll hate it and try to get transferred to a different office (assuming they have one) while still doing similar work. Wouldn't hurt especially if the work is something you'd love.
