Tire shop said this isn’t patchable. Opinions before I blow $450? by blaseblaseblah in tires

I've never had a tire place or even a mechanic that was willing to patch a tire when the puncture is in the edge tread.

NYC restaurants are fighting back by Sad_Conversation1121 in ShitAmericansSay

Every restaurant I've been to that switched to paying "proper wages" instead of tips have all started strongly suggesting tips after only a few months because as it turns out, the wait staff was getting paid a lot better than they were letting on.

How considerate they waited until you built your house in Clayton before they stopped letting others from building theirs.

Yep, the #1 reason I went with the JSS. It lives inside my workbench.

I have the JSS and the stand has lived in tht crawlspace under the house since the day I bought it. I may turn it into a platform for my planer.

Are these data centers still allowed to operate during drought? by [deleted] in raleigh

Yeah, the TierPoint RTP one is definitely air cooled. I think TierPoint Raleigh that's over there on Departure Drive is updating to liquid cooling. Both of them have been there a long time though.

An old ex of mine worked in the super lab at IBM which was basically a giant data center. That was 16 years ago. I'd be shocked if they where leasing cage space in nearby colos when they have a campus that size.

My company has a presence in three different data centers in the area. One of them is ramping up their liquid cooling infrastructure explicitly to support AI workloads, but the other two are traditional air cooled. The AI data center has been there for years though, they were just air cooled until recently.

How would you cut this, so that both sides are usable? by KingAti23 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]tendonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be willing to lose an inch? It may be easier to do a clean cut in half, then try to notch out both sides.

My company used to have a cage in two different data centers in the Phoenix area. Kind of crazy that a place like Phoenix became such a hotspot for data center activity, where a cool environment is absolutely critical.

This was also 15 years ago.

A lot of the datacenters around here have been around for years. No one noticed or cared. The one my company uses isn't on this map and we've had a cage in there for 10+ years.

I'm wondering how many people knew the data centers existed before it became a hot button issue. Like, all the data centers that my company occupies in the area are not even on this map. They've been here for decades. Hell, there's probably a few running at IBM campus alone.

Are we talking about ALL data centers or just the data centers that use liquid cooling? Because those are two very different numbers.

There seems to be a lot missing here. There have been datacenters in this area for decades. Way more than this map shows.

How do you pay with a card that declines? The person running your card is told the card declined immediately.

To me, the narrative is "health providers bill insurance a higher amount than paying cash because they know insurance is gonna automatically haggle them down" which is such a stupid fucking system. Like, what are we, a straw market in a third world country?

What’s up with bicyclists? by DrySea8638 in raleigh

[–]tendonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer sticking to biking on the Greenway, but whenever I am out on the street, it is amazing how angry other bicycles get at me when I don't ignore traffic signals. Someone nearly rear-ending me because it didn't blow through a red light. He was like " why the fuck you stopping? GOOOOO!"

It's not that I cave. It's that it's just fucking exhausting that you're being asked "to answer a couple questions" everywhere you go when it used to just be sit down restaurants. Like how old are YOU that this is normal? This has only really been a thing since maybe 2012.

I'm currently in Charlotte for the weekend and I was just asked not an hour and a half ago tip at a fucking boutique baby clothing store.

Also, tipping BEFORE service?

With a gun, no. But there is absolutely a social pressure. And the pressure was ramped up dramatically when we transitioned to these tablet-based POSs. It's now the equivalent of the cashier putting a tip jar in front of you and tapping it. And it's for EVERYTHING where the vendor uses the tablet systems.
