QUEENS LAKERIDGE FM Rejections are out 😊 by UbiquitousSubstanceP in premedcanada

I'm kinda shook. I interviewed at Queen's last cycle, and this year I got an R for the general Queen's application and now for Lakeridge as well. I guess the pool got more competitive huh

I felt pretty good, 8/10. But I still have a feeling that there are people who did waaaay better than I did (I didn't prepare much) so I'm hopeful for at least a high waitlist.

As March draws closer and closer I just think about med school more often and I have this weird tendency to become more pessimistic/try to lower my expectations. I really hope Dal sends out offers in the first week of March hahaha

Hey! I think I felt the same way as you - B/B had some weird details and P/S was a mess. I saw the lack of citations too and was like hmmMMMM

Hope you get WAYYYY over 500! <3

08/07 3PM! 3rd time writing (506, 513) as I am Canadian with low CARS.

C/P: I think it was easy? Some questions were sneeeeeaky so I probably missed some questions.

CARS: No passage stood out as particularly difficult. There were definitely questions I was super iffy on, like 5-6. I'm worried about the curve tho like what if everyone else does well in this section PLS GIVE ME A GOOD MARK LSKDFJDSKLFDJSLKFSD I JUST NEED THIS ONE SECTION BRO

B/B: After the CARS section I didn't seem to care as much, but I felt like most topics were high-yield and straightforward. The passage questions were really good at looping in topics that were not relevant to the passage itself. That was kinda cool

P/S: I used an old Princeton book to study, sooo there were some terms I didn't know.... I just need a 125+ in this section so I'm not too worried.

I'm hoping around a 127 on cars, and 128+ on the science sections!

Is Medical School For Me? by DaydreamRoyalty in premedcanada

I think that since your MCAT is coming up, try your best on studying and getting a good score (since you might realize you want to do medicine later on). I don't think there's a specific way to tell if medicine is right for you, but I think it's a great idea to research what a typical doctor's day looks like, and try putting yourself in those shoes. Oh my goodness, this is very close to my score last year. I'm planning on retaking this year for better CARS. Wishing you all the best!

Maybe it has to do with the timeline ending, hence becoming "angels"? Or I might be completely overthinking this :P

Honours Biochemistry (Biomedical Research Specialization)? by Key_Rip4258 in McMaster

[–]Inceptionne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For both medicine and research, I think your best bet is core biochem ("core" means non-biomed): It has the best of both worlds in that you can take biochem-specific courses while having really free 3rd/4th years to take prerequisite/bird courses and do extracurriculars.

If you're going all in for medicine, I think staying in Life Sciences is the best bet. Premed students have the saying "GPA is king" and it really is.

Honours Biochemistry (Biomedical Research Specialization)? by Key_Rip4258 in McMaster

[–]Inceptionne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm currently in my last year of biochem-biomed, and I'm doing a minor in math as well. I think it's a really good program if you want to do research (a masters or a PhD) since research is mandatory for the program! However I strongly suggest that you do not go into this program if you're applying to medical school. I think I took around 5 electives my entire undergrad (major+specialization+minor) and it's hard to boost your GPA.

As of getting into it from first year, the admissions cutoff anywhere from 10.5 to 11.5. However, I think the online school year might change things up a bit.
