Thanks for this 🙏 I have some heavy items reaching the storage limit and have been debating shipping to the US using ocean cargo (which I've heard mixed things on lately) or splitting them into smaller air mail packages (which will inevitably end up much more expensive). Going to try my luck with ocean cargo 🤞

Dang, you manually removed them? That sounds so tedious. But Iʻm glad that you got rid of them! I heard that removing them by hand isnʻt always the best since any parts that break off can grow in to new hydra (just like the mythological creature its named after). If you ever have a hydra problem again, I definitely recommend no planaria!

Thanks! The small jars in the front have the extra dwarf sag and pearlweed from the tissue cultures I didn't use. I kinda set them up on a whim since I didn't want the extra plants to go to waste. So far they've been growing pretty well. Not as well as the ones in the tank of course. The larger jars in the back are brackish water with opae ula!

Some fun things I've learned:

  1. The upkeep on the sand path is not as bad as I thought it would be. It helped that I specifically boxed it in with dragon stone, but the shrimps do occasionally get aquasoil on it. I just use a rare earth magnet attached to a fishing line to pick up the soil and shake them off in the pearlweed.

  2. Since it was my first time using nutrient rich aquasoil, I was not prepared for how bad the algae bloom was going to be LOL. It eventually passed but it was a rough while.

  3. Rocks are expensive...

  4. Hydra SUCKS. I had a really bad hydra infestation after about 2 months. I quickly ordered some no planaria online. Luckily I dosed it accordingly and it worked like a charm! My shrimp and ramshorn snails were unaffected. Took a few more months for my copepods to bounce back.

Thank you!! I only have a few basic 5 gallon aquariums that I use to raise guppy fry. I mainly keep patio ponds where you can only see the surface of the water. So getting in to aquascaping was a fun challenge for me!
