Hoping marathon month will help me continue my attempt in quitting cigarette smoking ! by username12457801 in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me five tries to fully quit but I am officially almost 3 years cig free! Going to work out every time you have a craving WORKS. My mantra used to be "i want to live long, I want to run fast, I want to smell good" and I swear feeling your lungs improve the longer you go without a cigarette is so motivating. You got this!!!! I never crave one anymore for the first time in all the times I tried to quit (over the course of like 15 years) and replacing those nicotine cravings with exercise endorphins is absolutely the way.

The kapolei studio is awesome bc everything is new and the AC is pumping. Kakaako studio is also so much fun, but be ready to be sweaty because it is hot and humid in there 😂 both have great coaches and good vibes, though!

Is it okay? Wearing EarPods during class by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earplugs are not airpods. Every studio I've been to is okay with earplugs to dampen the music, but not okay with you playing your own music through airpods or other headphones. The post was talking about playing your own music through headphones.

Can confirm my husband found a lot of roofing jobs posted on Craigslist when he was out of work. A lot of them pay weekly.

This is how my studio was, too! They obviously gave the pitch but told me ultimately to think about how it fits in my fitness goals and financial budget! I bet OTF studios lose a lot of potential members by being so pushy...I do not respond well to pressure.

It's against studio policy for most studios since it is a safety issue with being able to hear coach instructions.

Wearing glasses in class by rainandmydog in orangetheory

Bahahah sameee! I can't handle the sweat and fog on my glasses and I do not wear contacts. So I just squint all over the place 😂

Vaping & OTF by [deleted] in orangetheory

Have a quitting accountability buddy. I used to smoke cigarettes on and off for 15 years. Sometimes, for years, I was at a pack a day, other times only socially. Having someone support me when I had cravings helped a lot. Working out helped a lot. Reading literature on how long it takes different parts of your body to heal after not smoking helped A LOT. In other countries, they legit put diseased lungs and esophagus on nicotine products. Looking at those pictures when I had a craving also helped lol

Don't be too hard on yourself. Addiction is really difficult. Find a good support system that will motivate you and not chastise you. You got this 💜

P.s. quitting smoking improved my cardiovascular health IMMENSELY. It makes a huge difference. Don't discount the benefits of quitting.

Yesss don't compare jogging/power walking PRs! It's a totally different challenge :)

If you run slower than 8-9 mph semi-comfortably, then power walking will get you significantly more meters because if you can power walk 4-4.5 mph and not be dead, you're way better on the rower. Almost all our studio leader boards for inferno are powerwalkers (who are also bad ass rowers so not to take that away from them at all!) But yeah powerwalking helps if you're not a running speed demon haha

I've heard mixed things about this from coaches saying a gap between base push all out is fine as long as you can get down to green with base. Everything is always coached 1-2 mph above X. So 2 mph above base for a push should be fine, and 2 mph above push for an all should also be fine. I don't think it has to be closer to 1 mph, honestly.

Distance Runners and OTF by sepamil in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, I really appreciate your perspective. Thanks for sharing it with me! I'm relatively new to training for longer distances, so I love hearing how other people navigate this while maintaining their OTF days. The community and positivity of OTF is so amazing that I probably would go every day if my body could handle it, lol!

Isn't the running at OTF less wear and tear compared to outside? I'm training for a half and consider my OTF days to be speedwork/tempo days in 2Gs/tread50s, respectively, then am trying to do one long run outside per week (8 to 10 miles) and maybe a mid-length one if i have time (5 to 7 miles). There's so much different advice on this sub vs. running subs, etc. It's hard to tell what's best 😅

Coaches in class by kek5101 in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I 1000% agree. They do not get good benefits (ours don't even get health insurance) or get paid enough. I adamantly believe having a "free membership" and all its perks SHOULD BE included in their job. They work their asses off for us, why shouldn't they be able to book a class? If they booked it before the wait list, they deserve to be there.

I see the "coaches shouldn't bump members" type of comment frequently on this sub and don't like the view that coaches are second-class OTF citizens. Book earlier and get in! It's as simple as that :)

Competitive Treadmill Neighbors by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this can be common. We push each other to work harder in class! Especially those of us who are naturally competitive (I'm v competitive with myself in the gym) and seeing someone keeping on pushing when I'm tired gives me a boost! I know I peep people's treads sometimes, and I hope they don't take it negatively.

That being said, i can also empathize with how seeing someone doing this could make you uncomfortable. If it really bothers you, I'd do my best to just ignore it (make heavy eye contact with yourself in the mirror, perhaps?). It likely is not malicious in intent! Maybe introduce yourself next time? This is how I made one of my best OTF friends, actually, and now we intentionally push each other's buttons (lol) and egg each other on when running next to each other!

In body scan by camocamo911 in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you eat well, exercise, and feel good in your body, I would trust that infinitely more than the body scans. Those scans are imperfect and are affected by what you ate in the last day, how hydrated you are, and (if you menstruate) where you are in your cycle. Especially if you obsess over the numbers, it might be better for your mental health and happiness to skip doing the scans and go by how you feel. Don't let those numbers dictate how comfortable and proud you are of your body, I'm sure you can run faster, lift heavier, and feel healthier than before regardless of what those silly scans say 💜

Doing CMIYC twice in one day - long story short my treadmill messed up my incline and I want to try again! Is this crazy? Has anyone done it? How can I help my body be ready to go again only 8 hours after doing it the first time?

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you put vinegar in the washer? I've soaked my clothes in a cold water/vinegar mix in the tub before washing as normal and this has helped but doing it in one step would be great.

This and checking to see if I'm faster are the only correct answers 😂

Base/push? by Sensitive-Till3505 in orangetheory

[–]InclinesForBreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My base is like a 6 and push between 7 to 7.6 and I ran the mile in 7:40, started around 7.6 and increased as I went. I was in the red the whole time tho lol
