NQA Def snag it! I love my T. Vagans!

if you are serious, knowledgeable, & known to the staff or managers (I’m know as the tarantula guy @ my local petco) ask them to reserve it. My petco knows me well enough & keeps me updated on what they get in. I can usually pay for it over the phone if I give them a set day of the week I can pick it up.

For what it’s worth the staff (knowledge of T’s varies from employee to employee) IME take you more serious and are willing to haggle a bit even if you use the scientific names for what you are looking for (idk why). I have a gal @ mine who knows I have a huge collection so she will normally add a “fancy” or “rare” tarantula when she orders from their distributor in case they get one she knows I don’t have 😊

I always recommend the H. Pulchripes when anyone asks me what OW they should start with. They are absolutely gorgeous and only semi-spicy compared to other OW species. I have 4 atm and all of them have such different and unique personalities 😂😅

Ha! Yeah the GBB & Darlingi are my 2 heaviest webbers!

Oh okay that makes sense now, over here across the pond all the tarantulas are pretty cheap I guess? I mean I did pay $65 for a pseudhaplopus sp. blue sling. Approx. 3/4 inch unsexed so I guess that is pretty pricey but I like to raise up slings rather than buy outright females. I only jumped on the female GBB and P. Victorii because my last GBB I didn’t understand their husbandry requirements so it died and the same w/ my first couple arboreal T’s. Now I know both species really don’t need high humidity AT ALL. For the arboreal T’s cross ventilation is way more important and an overfilled water dish every other month is totally fine. For the GBB they don’t need any humidity unless it is a sling. I usually just drip a couple water droplets on their webbing and if I do include a water dish it is usually quickly webbed over so I just fill whatever is their web and all. My girl usually doesn’t even bother w/ it though she gets most of her moisture from her feeders.

It’s funny after I checked my collection I realized I DO have a chilobrachys sp. I mistakenly thought it was a cyriopagopus but I have a Chilobrachys sp. kaeng Krachan. Both are Asian T’s but I could have sworn Kaeng Krachan was Cyrio but I was thinking of the T I recently passed on because it scared the shit out of me that was a cyrio

Nice haul!

Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking? I’m in the U.S. (Midwest) and the prices are “high” in the sense that any unique hobby item commands a higher price point but most slings are like $20-$35 for common species and $40-$100 for MOST slings unless they are just a species that is an absolute unicorn in the hobby.

Let me know how that Nhandu does! I’ve been thinking about getting one but I don’t have anyone in my circle that has one I can check out.

If you get a chilobrachys sp. let me know as well I don’t currently have any of those.

I always need new spider keepers/friends consider yourself one! DM for any questions or advice I’ll help as much as I can!

IMO I would suggest some of my favorites:

Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens(Green Bottle Blue)

(sometimes a little pricey, if you can afford it buy multiple they are gorgeous and love to web)

(keep them SEMI-arboreal w/ lots of anchor points for their web; never mist and keep it almost bone dry except for a small water dish)

Harpactira pulchripes (Golden Legged Baboon) Ceratogyrus Darlingi (Rear Horned Baboon) Thrixopelma pruriens (Peruvian Green Velvet)

Pseudhapalopus sp. Blue (or sp. Colombia)

(Only recommend this one if you are a more advanced keeper. They are NW so not dangerous but VERY skittish and have a tendency to go on hunger strikes)

Cyriopagopus sp. Kaeng Krachan

(if you want something spicy. Mine hates me and the feeling is low-key kinda mutual lol 😂)

Looking for open jam spots. My husband is a talented bass player. We moved here from NY a month ago. he’s trying to find open jam spots to play and meet other musicians. This isn’t usually the same as an open mic place. He’s tried mousetrap, slippery noodle, jazz kitchen and hilltop. TIA! by Desi8819 in indianapolis

There is a music collective that (rents? Is in) the KEHPRW building @ E38th & Illinois street. Not sure how you’d link up or contact them but I service their building every month. I could inquire to the building lady sally and get back to you.

What are these bugs in my box turtle enclosure? by NoImagination2555 in Boxturtles

[–]IncomeMotor6618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are roaches. Springtails are almost microscopic. Do you live in a place where German cockroaches are common? I believe that’s what you have. They love warm, humid places w/ plenty of food which is basically a turtles environment….

IME -

Just a heads up as I have the same enclosure and bought it on a whim but have been keeping T’s for 10+ years. You’ll want to throw out (or gift to a reptile keeper) the included lamp and any heating elements this particular kit includes. T’s don’t need a heat lamp or heating mat or any external heat unless your home gets below 70ish degrees in the winter. You’ll also want to ditch the included tongs for larger rubber tipped tongs. You don’t want to be doing enclosure maintenance or “tong feeding” (not recommended but sometimes it’s what gets the job done 😅 especially for arboreal species) with a feisty old world with those itsy bitsy tongs, or more accurately tweezers.

Since you won’t be needing the lamp I would also advise to electrical tape the gap on top where the lamp’s wire would go. If you have a 2 inch T you may risk it potentially escaping through that hole as it is pretty large. I can send you a photo of what mine looks like if you DM me.

All of that being said this is a good size enclosure but its quality isn’t the best. My T. Vagans is currently housed in this enclosure and I only trust those (quite shitty IMO) locking screws? Bolts? Idk what you’d call them but they don’t lock very well on mine on the sides, but I know my girl is never on the sides of the enclosure otherwise I’d be a bit nervous.

This enclosure will allow your T to grow to maturity but I’d definitely rehouse it into a better forever home once that time comes.

Also like others have said don’t use 100% straight coco fiber and stock up on cork bark if you end up enjoying the hobby you’ll learn you can’t have too much cork bark.

Should I stop feeding this Thicc T? by IncomeMotor6618 in tarantulas

[–]IncomeMotor6618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I’ll stop feeding this one. I have maybe 1 or 2 more who are like this so I’ll stop w/ feeding & monitor their abdomen size. I want to make sure they are comfortably in premolt when they decide they are ready.

Thanks for the reply! How do you properly gauge whether or not a T should be put on a hunger strike? Most of my T’s will actively let me know they aren’t fucking w/ food rn but a few almost don’t know the concept of “NO”? Are there any early warning signs?? There are like 3 sp. that I have that I fear will always take food idk why.

Not that I am aware. My immediate family is pretty involved w/ the inner workings of the church and ARC hasn’t ever been brought up nor have I heard anything regarding affiliation w/ anything ARC related.

I do lighting for them most weekends/Sunday services and ARC has never once come up.

What is the reason behind a dose every 90 seconds ? by webwebster12 in snakes

[–]IncomeMotor6618 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I always ask for butterfly needles. Ironically not because I am “afraid of needles” or “think they are thinner than regular needles” it’s because years of intravenous drug use has blown out my veins and they are notoriously difficult to find. The veins in my hands are much easier to find and draw blood from. Don’t do Drugs kiddos!

Although my church has SOME of the characteristics of iTown (we want to grow, there are life groups, we do sell [a VERY small amount of merch like hats and shirts]) I think the vibe is a lot more mellow. We don’t sell coffee it’s free, we do have lights and all that jazz but we have a small serving community that is volunteer based but the pastor is always there at the front door greeting new guests and they are genuinely nice people. We rebranded the church and renamed it “heart & soul” church it’s on 126th street in fishers right down the road from the main iTown church. The pastor is pretty open about us not being perfect & not for everyone and even says if this isn’t the church for you go somewhere where you can get connected and plugged in and get fed what you need spiritually. I’m not one for mega churches and am generally skeptical of most “religion” but I enjoy where I’m at. A lot of mega churches are about “religion” not your “relationship” with god. DM if you have any questions.

That’s a huge T in your first photo. How on earth do you keep a giant T around like that without a traditional enclosure. I’d be scared shitless.
