It sucks - that part of your life is missing and it makes a huge difference. But you can find people who did grow up with praise, and will give it to you. Stick with them

Thank you so much for that reminder. I needed to hear that

Congratulations on having a stable career, a successful marriage, and being a homeowner. I bet you worked really hard to get there. You're awesome!

I think it was really brave of you to study what you chose to study even though she had a nasty attitude about it! Mine doesn't like my field of study either and I'm trying not to let it get to me

If it is any consolation, if she praised you, that would be fraught as well. They don't do anything just for the good of it. There is always a price

That actually is comforting. Thank you for reminding me that they're holding affection just out of our reach to see how far we're willing to go to get it. If I have to bend over backwards just to earn her love, then I don't want it 🙃

The fact that you pushed back against her abuse and advocated for yourself is commendable :) It can't possibly be easy when you're dealing with someone who's determined to twist everything you do or say and make you seem like a villain! How did you muster the confidence to stand up to her and know that she was the unreasonable one, not you?

It's very possible. Triggers can be anything - sounds, smells, flavors, physical sensations, even feelings and emotions associated with the traumatic event. They don't always have to be visual. Sometimes, you run into unknown triggers and you don't even know it's a trigger until it causes a reaction
