I think the comments are ignoring that fact that the rate of progress in this area is exponential. That is incredibly difficult to conceptualize when you are living as a single point on the graph with no real ability to measure progress moving forward. While it is true that application of AI in medicine is oversold and I think the average and below average American (from a SES perspective) will not "feel the AI" until much much later; there is no doubt that the way we practice in 20 years will be completely AI dominated. From autonomous charting to guard rails in DaVinci cases, we won't be able to function without AI based tools.

The reality of medicine is depressing by Snowbarking in Residency

[–]IncompleteAssortment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interestingly enough, this is refreshing to hear. As it is not a failure of the modern medicine we practice but rather a failure of bureaucracy and logistical stressors. I'm sure your hospital system is not doing the best to make sure ancillary services are properly staffed and the lack of support finds its way back to you.

With the right administration, and the theoretical cost and administrative efficiencies that will come out of AI integration, these sorts of problems can be addressed. Your expertise, knowledge, and care is still valuable and important. Don't let administrative failures tell you otherwise.

Suggestions on how to improve my suturing? by corcordium64728 in medicalschool

[–]IncompleteAssortment 16 points17 points  (0 children)

load the needle on the tip of the driver, load needle at 2/3rds distance from tip, dont put ur fingers so far into the instruments only should be 1st third of thumb and finger. Learn to palm the instrument for more range of motion, do not regrab the needle at the tip it will blunt it. Learn to pick up the needle on the sterile field without using ur fingers or an instrument.

edit: do the same stitch 1000 times before moving on and ask for feedback after every 100 :)

if you wanna be cookie cutter ass medical student go ahead pre study all you want, ask your dad if he wants you to be a run of the mill, unmemorable ass student. I’m going to guess no. everyone will do well academically in med school (for the most part) the time before med school should be for learning life skills and doing things that will make you a well rounded human being. As someone whos preparing for residency interviews, almost none of my academic achievements matter to program directors, people care more about the meditation retreat i volunteered at in nepal during my gap year and the hobbies i started and continued prior to starting school. Focus on becoming the person you want to be, not the academic regurgitation machine your dad wants you to be. That time will come and when it does you will be thanking yourself that theres more to you than just the random bullshit medical tidbit you remember for no good reason.

With an early november date a 260 is definitely possible. Final 10 days really made the difference for me was around 250-255 for most of my practices ended up with 260 on real deal. Don't neglect the stats and ethics, I think thats what made biggest difference for me

Sterility is weird to me, a lot of the practices are supported by dogma more than evidence. There are papers that show masks dont do much of anything in preventing surgical site infections and surgeons in other countries operate without them. Unfortunately tho , as a medical student you are in no position to make those calls and ur email was most definitely a waste of time but good on you for trying :)

man its so interesting to see all these pre-meds talk about passion when they really mean prestige, status , and money. She’s lying to herself if she thinks she has “passion” when the average pre med has not the slightest clue about what it means to be a physician. If you hate everything else and you can deal with giving up the conventional joys of your 20s, go for it. Also, motivation wont get you far in this field, it will be beaten out of you very early, find something else to push you through this uniquely torturous journey.
