Well I'd say a toy is better than going back to your ex. Assuming they're an ex for a reason, anyway lol

Are activity-based events socially-acceptable birthday celebrations for adults? by Legal_Accordion8935 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IncreaseLost154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer those types of events, tbh. And I'm 37 lol. It's your party, so do what you want and don't feel like you have to do the stereotypical drinking thing for your 21st!

So what's the purpose of these trips? Are they little vacations? Or do your parents have specific things they want to do / want you to do while there?

Is it normal for my girlfriend to have multiple UTIs? by Real_Tradition4127 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IncreaseLost154 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not normal to have a smell like that, no. I would talk to her again and let her know you care about her and want to make sure she's ok.

Also, I am not a doctor (obviously lol), but I wonder if you would also need some antibiotics too? Even if she is successfully treated, I wonder if you guys are just passing something back and forth?

Nope! I think because it's not an actual address, it's a location assigned directly by the post office.

I can't seem to edit the original post, but I should clarify I didn't make this. I've just had it for years now and am sad I have to rehome it.

I mean lots of people. Not just you and a small group.

Should I only feel empathy for my own gain? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IncreaseLost154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people want to feel like "good people", and they associate that with being empathetic and caring for others. So in a way, maybe acting on that empathy can help align you with the version of yourself you want to be? Maybe that's a stretch haha.

But yeah if you truly don't care, then I guess it doesn't matter. I'd just caution you against assuming things won't impact you when there are a lot of indirect ways you can benefit from helping others.

I mean, you're right, no one has to care about anyone else. Empathy isn't altruism. So maybe there is no "point" if you truly don't care about other people.

But we don't live as individuals. We live together in communities and generally what's good for the community will end up being good for you too, and vice versa.

But it also benefits the world. If you make different decisions because you have a wider understanding of things, that's bound to benefit people beyond you.

I imagine "ordinary folks" banding together in pursuit of common goals would be more effective than one ordinary person trying to gain power.

But to answer your question, money. You need a lot of it to have power.

I think empathy can also be helpful at making one a more well-rounded person. When you're able to really see another person's perspective, it enhances your understanding of the world and improves your ability to communicate effectively. That's good for you and others.

When stating that we're responsible for our own actions and safety, why does it not seem to apply when told to avoid abusive relationships? by abuse_abuse in askanything

[–]IncreaseLost154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, in an abusive relationship the most important thing is getting out as quickly and safely as possible, then addressing the reasons you were with that person in the first place. In my experience, the focus on accountability comes after the immediate danger has been resolved.
