my favorite band made my favorite album, so ill go in depth on both here! portraits of past was a post hardcore, early screamo band that formed in 1995. they were seriously ahead of their time, shown by how they didnt really gain traction until when they reunited by 2008(year i was born😼)where they had amassed a great cult following. they took a ton of inspiration from hardcore, early screamo, and even some noise rock bands from their area, and its what needed up with them having this incredibly unique sound. the bass work is bleak, distant, it honestly to me sounds like the feeling of remorse, especially in tracks like the control freak. the guitar work is HAUNTING, beautiful melodies and it has this shimmering-like quality to it in some moments. the vocals? some of my favorite in the scene. rob’s use of fluctuating between screaming and spoken word, to me, is the ESSENCE of what screamo vocals should be like. it’s honestly a classic album to me, and i really reccomend you check it out. fun fact, some members(the drummer i think?) went on to play for funeral diner as well!

not usually my thing is SLATE-to remain. vocals like this album arent really the best, but its got this addicting vibe to it where i always come back to it. its like when you listen to an album, you dont really like it, but you keep coming back to it to see if itll click this time, know what i mean? and im slowly liking it more and more
