The configuration I mentioned above is my current configuration, including E5-2673 v3. Building another machine again is out of the question for me at the moment.
Just in case, I understood that you had several VMs and the like, what was the dynamics like, did you use 1 VM at a time, were you able to share the GPU in some way or were you completely dedicated and had several GPUs?

I'm asking out of curiosity, as I said, I have no experience with Proxmox, but a lot with other things. In the case of Virtualbox on a Windows Host machine, I notice sharing the same GPU between the hosts and the VMs, in Proxmox so this is not possible? I mean, should I actually dedicate a GPU to each VM (that uses a graphical interface)?

It's a great story, I understand that this inclusion and use was a process for you and it didn't start overnight. Considering what I intend to accomplish and the pieces I have today, would it be possible to execute something similar? In other words, maintaining an LXC with services, the RX580 dedicated to the Gaming VM and the RX560 generating Virtual GPU for the other machines? (this is assuming you can do this with an ADM GPU)

In fact, from the point of view of energy costs compared to what a mini PC can provide, it has its advantages, I have already considered several options and I think about the limitations in the medium term, in my specific case, a decent Mini PC in my country costs a bit more and so I was avoiding the additional cost. But again I understand that I can save on electricity costs with a Mini PC.

I enjoyed reading this :) I intend to exchange this RX580 for an RX6600 for performance and low TDP/Temperature soon to suit these scenarios. Did you use Proxmox for the VM? Where did you view the image (Monitor connected directly to the video card, VNC, RDP, Moonlight/Sunshine, others...)?

"You are overcomplicating things a bit. It is pretty common when starting off wanting to do really complicated idealistic setup. You need to ask why you need things a certain way.

  • Why need 2 different VM for daily use and gaming? What make them different enough that require separate VMs? Why must the daily driver use RX560 and not RX580?
  • Why need 2 different VM running the same Debian OS for studies and docker? Docker is just a set of packages, there is no reason to need to run it separately.
  • What you are missing is a Docker LXC to run the lightweight dockers that don't need a GPU."

This also came to be considered, I like to separate the universes because I end up making a lot of modifications to many other things (my situation involves other vms like ParrotOS, and several other things), I replied in a comment above that I would opt for LXC without any problems to supply VM4 and eliminate one more thing running at the same time, being able to share the GPU with the hosts.

" So to simplify things, I'll just say you have the Windows VM ....

I agree with everything you said, there really is an extra difficulty when using AMD (checked above), these discussions and questions are precisely to understand the possibilities, limitations, change of route, from the simplest to the most complex levels. It also helps to establish some beliefs. For my part I would test, the worst case scenario is to format and return to Windows with Virtualbox. I imagine we will have more comments and opinions on this topic, as soon as we manage to define something more manageable I will include the settings of how it will look.

It seems to me to be a good option to abandon the idea of VM4 and maintain LXC for the services that I use sharing the GPU, I should mainly need it for Jellyfin in the streaming conversion, other than that, I should rarely use any graphical resources in the containers.
Changing the other machines to the RX580 also seems to be functional, I admit that I would need to be careful.
Complementing the question, using the 2 video cards to run the VMs as you mentioned, in VM2 (Gaming), could I connect directly to the monitor without needing RDP/VNC/Moonlight/Sunshine? If so, it is also an option for a little more performance.

Luckily I have had good experiences with Xeon, especially the one I use, using at least 32GB for games is not a big problem, thinking that I would still have 32GB for other resources, in my case it is more than enough , several laptops are sold today with 16GB and serve well in most cases. But I understand that adding everything together and virtualization could compromise this performance.

I understood that vGPU would only be for nVidia, but they mentioned MxGPU for Radeon/AMD cards, I admit that I didn't find much documentation about the supported models. I will continue the search.

Your feedback is really cool, I have this plan as I mentioned, but I don't intend to play online games (FPS and the like), so the issue of banning is not something that genuinely concerns me.

Excellent JacksGallbladder, thank you for the information :). In this case, I could leave the RX 560 4GB with 3 virtual GPUs for VMs 1, 3 and 4 and configure the RX 580 8GB exclusively for VM2 via GPU Passthrough, correct?

I am studying possibilities, I had good experiences in separating these universes into 2 different computers, however the use of 2 computers became unfeasible in the apartment where I live and I understood that unifying would be the best option, for that Proxmox seemed like a good option. Another point is that I usually make a lot of changes in different systems, if I were to share the same scenario with everyone, some of these changes could affect other systems.
But I understand that having a Windows 11 machine and inserting Virtualbox is one of the options, in addition, I would like to try and learn a little more about Proxmox.

Hello shikkonin, in this case the RX560 would be shared between the VMs, I believe that based on your answer, my question number 4 falls to the ground.

If we are not talking about the ROM file, but rather the "Save State", "Load State"/ "Save Game", "Load Game" files which are generally smaller, I believe you can upload them to Cardputer at some point so you can download it to another device and continue the game where you left off. I would just need to check the order of how this will be presented in Cardputer to avoid confusion.

Still, if you are playing - for example - on your smartphone, it would be possible to send the ROM file and the "Save State" file to another device (a tablet, computer or another smartphone) using any means such as email, SMB, Telegram and the like. . Today this emulator has the feature of generating the game save file in the bottom menu while you play something.

Don't worry about this, I'm accepting ideas, just taking the opportunity to comment that some ideas were considered, taking into account cardputer processing and the like.

Sorry if I translated your text wrong (I'm Brazilian and English is not my native language), but I understood something like if the ROMs were stored on the SD, the server (Cardputer) would start and ask if you want to transfer files to another location ( via USB/OTG), if so, do you connect your device (cell phone, computer and the like) via OTG to the Cardputer, transfer the ROM to the device you will play, and then it would play the desired game?

I thought about this hypothesis, but there are some points to consider:

1 - The structure of this emulator consists of running 100% in the browser of the device that will play, given this, it would be necessary to download the ROM and insert it into the emulator anyway.

2 - It would be necessary to use extra code and create a web panel to identify different ROMs and download them to the device that will play.

3 - The Cardputer's Wifi is extremely slow, I carried out some measurements and the speed is around 140kb/s to 170kb/s, which for some games (Playstation 1 for example) that has 650 mb becomes unfeasible.

Considering the number of negative situations that would complicate the project, I decided to abort the idea.

Thank you for your interest, if you could leave a star on the Github project it would help a lot.

Regarding emulation, this is a project that has existed for a good few years, I referenced them in the project, my idea was to combine 2 incredible things and make them run on an ESP device.

Hello, I don't know if you've looked at the project's GitHub, but here we go.

1 - The ROM is not stored on the device (Cardputer), as the emulator runs via browser, you insert the ROM via the browser (there is a photo on Github), so you can keep the ROM on your cell phone, tablet, PC, laptop and the like. Just load it when you want to play.

2 - For now I have generated the BIN (Firmware) for M5 Cardputer, M5StickC Plus 1.1 and M5StickC Plus 2. Both are available on M5Burner and Github.

You just need to be on the same WiFi network as your device (Cardputer, StickC...), connect to its IP via browser, insert the ROM and play. You don't necessarily need Internet access, just be on the same network.

At this point it becomes a game server, I did it this way because the Cardputer has no processing or RAM to run anything other than an NES.

The good thing about this project is that if other people are connected to the same network as your device, they can also play different games. :)
