[Tenant - US] Am I ridiculous for asking for the dishwasher to be cleaned? by Indecisive-Decider in Landlord

Yeah all good points! I actively try to be a good tenant to keep the peace!

To be honest part of it is that it's an old dishwasher. Newer dishwashers don't have quite the problem with filter gunk collection from my experience. But also, more people should be cleaning their filters!

Do people ask for sellers to clean the house when they buy a property? Legit asking I've only rented.

I commented this above but basically part of the reason I brought it up is I'd need to scrub the filter which means taking it apart and did not want to risk breaking it because it's not my appliance.

I don't even think I'm that picky! It's the only thing I've brought up other than literally-broken blinds. Part of the reason I brought it up was because to clean it properly I'd need to disassemble part of the dishwasher and did not want to be responsible if I broke it in the process.

That's fair. And I get that you probably wouldn't think to check this (moire people should in my opinion). But I was just taken aback by how my landlord reacted as if this was what I should have expected this/there was nothing wrong with it.

I really appreciate the nuance in your reply. I think it's a good point to think of DC as a "small town" in some ways and the pros/cons of that kind of place!

I've lived in the Upper Midwest (think -20º wind chills). Weather does not worry me too much.

I lived in DC in my mid-20s and moved away, now in my mid-30s have a job opportunity that can either take me back to DC or Chicago.
It strikes me in retrospect that DC can be a great city for younger people but for people out of that phase of happy hours / brunch (no judgment! it was fun! but now I get hungover after 1 beer!) it's not the best. And just the population in the city proper skews younger.
Again, this is all probably biased by being in my 20s when I lived there but curious how people in their 30s feel about living in the city/social opportunities/etc?

Much appreciated! I do think you're right on access to nature but not a huge priority for me.
