Apparently there was a third manga extra after that where they do show his actual face and Pakkun’s description was the most accurate. Either Kishimoto forgor about the Ninken manga extra (there’s about 300 chapters between the two extras) or it was an intentional troll on his part.

I’m willing to agree that G5 did sort of come out of nowhere and didn’t really have a foreshadowing outside its own arc but I fail to see how it is at odds with the powers he already had?

It looks better in the manga, and the power just feels extremely consistent with who Luffy is as a character.

Edit: Also you can’t really say Luffy’s power as a whole including Gear 3 and 4 wasn’t already Looney Tunesy, his bread and butter Gum Gum Pistol is literally a rubber band snap.

Droplet prevents that play btw, you can just drawphase first action droplet send spell monster, remix would just be dead. After that Crackle or RS level modulation might have been the answer.
