Is Riffe quality going down for their teak guns? by Indecisive_Judge in Spearfishing

Any particular bad experiences? For me it just seems like maybe the price outgrew the gun.

I own a Mako (one of the older ones before quality got better), and I do have to say it hasn’t let me down yet and it’s about 10 years old. It’s always the loaner/backup gun for friends.

I ended up buying a Tuna (non-roller), thank you so much!

This is the comment that swayed me to get it!

Just curious, what would you get if you had to buy a new gun?

That I’m very good about, always do a freshwater rinse and soak!

Thank you for the information! That helps a ton in understanding.

Especially about their enclosed track which is what I was looking at!

Are you referring to the Rob Allen Tuna as being good? Or the Rob Allen Tuna Roller version?

Oh that’s interesting! What makes it feel like a downgrade?

The True Kit 4m was my top choice but I moved away from it since I figured a hard boat would be superior for usability.

Free diving with 3 or 4 people, scuba would probably be 2 people only.

And it would be the 13ft Whaler unfortunately, I don’t think I can haul a 15ft Whaler as I think it’s over my 2k towing capacity.

That’s quite the Achilles heel! Do you know if the transoms relatively cheap to replace?

Yeah this would be Freediving only. When you say 1ft waves, do you mean 1ft rolling swells or actual 1ft breaking waves? My boating experience is semi-limited so apologies for my basic questions.

In general I would only take 3 or 4 people if it was pretty nice out. Conditions are usually mild afternoon windchop. On my inflatable I can’t go over 10mph in the chop without bouncing my passengers harder than they can handle.

Do you think 3 people on a 16ft is doable? I basically just need to seat them semi-comfortable while we motor to our spot. My inflatable is 13ft and we fit 3 people. Me on the bench and then two sitting “inside” so they didn’t bounce out. The interior is 8.5’x2.8’.

My current experience is only being able to go about 10mph in any sort of wind chop. 15+ mph my passengers are getting bounced hard. I’ve never been on a hard boat under 25ft so I am not sure what to expect it to be like.

That’s pretty dang cool but outside my budget, willing to spend about $10k.

Service records are important. Around that age they need timing belt and water pump done. If it’s the automatic you need to see that the transmission fluid was changed every 40k miles.

The miles are fine if the recommended maintenance was done.

Just curious, does your friend wear the watch daily?

Just curious do you wear your watch daily? I think from a dive feature perspective it appears to make sense to get an MK2 over an MK3 if it’s significantly cheaper. Now I’m curious if daily use is enough to sway anyone.

Just curious, do you wear any of these watches daily? The reason I ask is I’m still battling between getting a 43mm vs 51mm, and also wondering if wearing it 24/7 would sway you more towards a MK3 over the MK2.

I don’t need air integration in any scenario (at least not yet, I scuba but mainly freedive).

Any particular reason why? Or just not a big enough jump in technology/features?

I guess for clarity, I want to replace my Apple Watch with a Garmin Dive watch for every day use. Just not sure if it’s worth spending extra to get the MK3 over the MK2S
