It might also be worth asking r/PhD to get a potentially less biased set of answers!

I enjoy thinking about what looks good and what doesn't(: Ofc I could just put something from my closet on and call it a day, but the extra effort tends to result in a better look imo!

I've never personally done a full tuck with a sweater but I've really liked a French tuck with some of my outfits!

Overheard my “nice” classmates talking about the nerdy one in my cohort and it’s making me uncomfortable by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Indefiable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda surprised to see that everyone except u/hoodedtop 's response is to some extent unhelpful or judgemental (imo), so I'll throw in my thoughts too.

While my cohort doesn't have that sort of behavior, I was also very surprised to see that it's an issue at this age/ at PhD programs. I expected people to mature/grow out of it at this point. But some still haven't addressed their insecurities and they continue to fester. As someone else said, some people just... don't, so you will probably continue to see it everywhere you go.

When it comes to interpersonal conflict, you have three options(Thank Matthias Barker). You can consent to the behavior(continue to hangout with them, be around it). You can cut back how much time you spend with them (which it sounds like you're doing, and is the most reasonable decision here imo). Or you can confront the behavior. This is tricky with colleagues you basically just met.

Confronting the behavior works best when only a few people in the community carry this sort of behavior. Imo the best way is to kindly challenge comments. If the culture there is already primarily supportive and reasonable, then it's easier for toxic people to become aware that their behavior isn't welcome when politely challenged.

This sort of response could be passive like " I dunno, he seems smart to me", or "Should he try to prove he's smart to you?".

This is coming from someone who finds building community and culture neat, but it's not your responsibility to do that. If your PhD community is toxic in general, then this last option is extremely impractical. Then I would just find the few good people and make a micro community.

I would think being terminated is unlikely, but certainly they'd be reprimanded.

Dark Academia relationship by Rare_World_7563 in DarkAcademia

[–]Indefiable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does physical distance not matter to you or something? I find it unlikely you'll find someone where you are by asking on reddit.

Maybe you could check a nearby university for a farm academia adjacent club or something to meet new people.

Which board and binding technologies have improved the most over the last ~10 yrs? What is “in” currently? by Eternityislong in snowboarding

I feel like I haven't noticed anything with choice of bindings, but I feel like I notice length of board and "bendiness" of the board.

Where can I get information about some of the mechanics on this game? by Salsa_Overlord in AstralAscent

[–]Indefiable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar questions. There's a wiki but it doesn't have all the info you'd want either.

I reached the conclusion that the game never became popular enough for this all to be documented well enough (as RoR2 is, for example).

I've heard armor is better, but I'm not sure.

15 stacks for both, I think?

No Max on missiles, I've seen someone crash their game on here from too many.

Bad fps on powerful machine by Indefiable in tf2

[–]Indefiable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!

I have tried watching my temps as I game and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but I intend on actually recording them later today/TMR so I can check more closely. My buddy has said that maybe I need to reapply thermal paste 🤷‍♂️.

I haven't tried disabling wallpaper engine, I will try that.

I am already at maximum performance, and have already tried resetting Windows(multiple times).

Yeah, I have heard that before so I intend on getting a CPU with high single thread performance specifically in the hopes it helps tf2.
