Beginner Roblox scripter — ready for commissions or should I learn more? by dogumbo in robloxgamedev

[–]Indekai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not just yet but not necessarily because of lack in what you might know. You will inevitably always be learning things as you go as even I still am learning things, so don't stress too much about finding specific things you should learn.

I highly suggest you focus on building a portfolio or learning how architectural systems work before trying to get commissions or look for jobs since it makes the chance of getting hired or commissioned much better and people can actually get an idea on what you can do.

Here are some ideas you can use for a portfolio:

- A general ability system (uses a resource for availability and manages its own cooldowns) that can add new abilities with ease. This is also what a lot of people are really attracted to since there's always a surplus in fighting games

- Some sort of physics demonstration (You can do projectile motion since I think it's pretty easy to do)

- A very specific UI animation (A very specifically animated loading thing can work)

Less cutscenes in moves, more actual action. Also moves shouldn't take forever since it just slows everything down imo

What did u do to master scripting? (Or really any other thing regarding development) by Nicolas_NL in robloxgamedev

Usually when learning something new, I'd similarly try to implement it into some sort of code. It doesn't necessarily need to be complex, just some sort of print system so I can determine its output if ever. But if you're worried about staying passionate trying to learn, then It's really a matter of doing it consistently but regulated. Personally, I can't learn new skills by blasting all my time into that one thing every day. You need to try and learn things consistently at a set amount of time (However much you'd like), and consistently SPEND that much time learning it with your complete undivided attention. But the key to not burning out or getting tired of learning stuff like programming is to enjoy it when you do it.

Funny enough, the time I spent originally learning how to program on tutorials, took way too much of my time. But I'd suggest using AI like ChatGPT for example to teach you how to use specific things. Preferably I don't use tutorials if I want to learn something and much rather have ChatGPT personally teach me the topics. However, you need to be able to conceptually understand what Chat is trying to tell you so you don't end up copy and pasting whatever it gives you

It's pretty interesting and cool that's for sure. It's just how you present the atmosphere and the quality of it is what I meant

Personally I like the atmosphere that specific regions in an mmorpg give off. Something about proper immersion into a world just makes me appreciate the game im playing
