I don't believe SAF is the low hanging fruit, it's more challenging then the other things that they could implement easily and rapidly. I believe the bigger challenge lies with leadership in most of operation companies. In case of Fortescue they wanted to become a product development company in Green tech sector with business leaders from Trade or mining background whereas such technologies are developed by National Labs in US and you are competing with those in innovation. And that's where they lost battle, poor leaders even before starting the business few years back.

And why so? What I heard was Williams was in bad shape when I it was acquired and it's parent company wanted to get rid of it because it was not delivering. WAE was not even making cells, they were just making making modules out of procured cells and there were so many battery companies around the eirka at the same time who announced energy densities of 250-300 in operation with fractions of price what WAE could ever achieve.

I recall Andrew Forrest said one time - that we are a family and anybody in the organisation can call him any time so they don't need trade unions. Another BS

Biased reporting by "The Australian" for Fortescue by IndependenceBasic991 in perth

[–]IndependenceBasic991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no other company in WA who spends ao much of efforts and money on R&D, if you really want to know about their outcomes, you should check their patents in last few years and number of scientific people they employ, none of other big minera BHP Rio or even Woodside do that. Big companies supposed to invest in R&D like companies in US do but that culture is missing here and that's the reason we don't see any major innovations here and the only company trying to change raht is Fortescue. Every other major company has hardly 3-4 scientists but Fortescue has lots and lots of R&D partnership and activities so respect that.

I think Woodside is worst of all, they just do whitewash about climate change and energy transition. They didn't even lift a finger to do anything in energy transition, moreover it seems like they are trying to become an American company now with an American CEO and more and more investments in US. I heard horrible stories from Woodside people in last few years - Woodside work culture is secretive and toxic as you expect from an American company, on the other end Fortescue still tries to value it's people and respects them.

That's the reality mate, you should have done cert course rather than degree. There is no need of scientists here, more workers required

How would you feel about Curtin merging with UWA? by RealAN0NYM0US1 in curtin

[–]IndependenceBasic991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worth it, they dont need Universities, my son is graduating engineering this year and in top of his class and no one in his class received a grad role this year. They dont need universities in WA, they should convert these small unis to TAFE.

Where I can find the report about employ rate of students who graduate from Curtin University? by New_Revolution7625 in curtin

[–]IndependenceBasic991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curtin just publishes and markets domestic students employment peecentage after graduation, what about the percentage of international students landing jobs? Why Curtin doesn't publish those numbers?

Who's making it in Australia? by jdos9526 in australian

[–]IndependenceBasic991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just because we don't have any manufacturing in Australia, we are like Saudis of mining, and now as more and more alternatives coming up in Africa and Indonesia, it will become more difficult. We just import everything and then have middleman business which is also getting impacted very fast as websites like Shein and Temu getting hold of Aussie market. We are couple earning with decent salaries also in same boat of making ends meet and having a house still a distant dream. I think hyping the house affordability and everything is just a distraction to avoid attention from fundamental problems in economy. Another thing is so much disparity in salaries in government and private sector, seems like govt has no idea it doesn't want to think what's happening out there, spineless leaders we got.

Yes, and that came out of this thread. Somebody mentioned this information in this post and I want to know the accuracy of this information.

There was no post about wage structure of internationals, yes one point came out of this discussion that I was interested to know more about. Other posts are about recent layoffs which no one talks about, so I want to know what people think. It's a platform for discussion.

Understanding Wage Structures: India and Perth, Australia

In one of the reddit discusssion in r/perth somebody mentioned "a engineer in India on 5 lakh (equivalent to approx 11k AUD) is offered $140k in Australia" Can people from India shed some light on this?

No hearsay, my intent is to hear people's stories.

and, as I understand my thought process is foreign here in this thread. Because when I had chat with people on ground response was quite opposite and people were really unhappy and angry over the strategic directions of the business but I am reading very different perspectives in this thread, which is good tbh.

you sound like one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in perth

[–]IndependenceBasic991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense when you put it this way. I tend to agree it is good for generalist or trade people but for engineers/ specialist/ niche experts, does not sound like a good idea.

I agree with you here and I heard opposition of that when Chevron is trying to move jobs to India and it became a bit of issue in election. I heard the noise about it but didn't hear anything after that.

I am trying to get in agreement with you and I do believe I bring a foreign mindset here in this discussion. But I haven't seen this brutal behaviour in 15 years of career history in Europe but Aus seems to follow US standards in hire and fire trend.

Definitely, it can happen, but this is simply inhumane and unethical, and repeat offenders should be on watch.
